The actual average...

So, I was having a brief glance at measurection.com t'other day, and were having a discussion about what the actual average is. It's proof enough that men with 5.5 inches were registered and saying 'bah it's small isn't it' that our obsession with penis size is all pervading. Anyhoo, they said that since a lot of studies are self-measured, there's plenty of room for 'inflation' and, let's face it, out and out lying. Even ones where people volunteer to be measured by the doc will not be accurate as smaller endowed individuals will be less likely to participate (many people on measurection said that would be a reason not to participate). So on many doc measured volunteer surveys the average seems to be 5.5-6 inches. Self measured, especially internet polls, seem to be 6-6.5 inches. Of the few perhaps non-biased surveys (one example given was when men had army physicals, don't know whether it actually happened) gave an average of 5 inches or just under. A couple of others supported this.

I think it's safe to say that 6-6.5 is more than average. The doc measured ones may also be inaccurate. So really, I'd say a lot of guys who think they're small aren't.

And another thing that came up on that forum was that women are frankly crap at guessing size. An example was given that a girl said 'my bf's dick is big, seriously like 8".' A man who knew her said 'can you indicate how long it is?' and she indicated something like 5.5 inches. Many men on this (small penis support!) forum claim that women have told them they're big, or average, or certainly not particularly small.

To finish off, I gotta say that an internet poll I took myself put my 7.25 incher in the biggest 90%, with the average over 6". It makes me happy that the average could be quite a lot less than 6", and I might be in the top 95%. I'm special :tongue:

What're your opinions? Can polls be trusted? Is the only way to get a definitive answer to drag 5000 random men off the street and measure them? If so, would chloroform or a big mallet work best? :tongue:

Sounds like a funny guy! But there you have the flipside of the coin - women who want to make their man feel happier with what he's got. But most anecdotal evidence indicates that women are bad at guessing actual length rather than 'above average' or whatever, because an average dick on a big man will look small etc...

Most women are just crappy at it anyway, tend to be less visual in general. I've caught myself thinking one was bigger than it was when I measured it. I've measured enough now to be able to guage more realistically, but how many women are really going to do that? I'll answer you that one, almost none!

Add to that the fact that most men lie or exaggerate dramatically, so they're being told a 5" dick is 7", etc. THEN, add in that most guys measure from their asshole up, instead of topside, non-bonepressed, which is the only actual measurement that should be used. Yeah, women can't judge shit, for a lot of reasons.

I agree that anything above 6" or so is above average. A lot of guys do lie though. My girlfriend didn't realise I was 'big' until I donned a Magnum XL...before that I dont know what she thought. Although you would think with no regular condoms fitting she would have got the hint

Well there was a study that indictated that women's brains are not as good as men's at judging spacial dimensions and mentally rotating objects. This actually explains why they can't read maps and can't park cars. On the other hand, men's general crapness at multitasking means they crash when trying to drive and talk on their phone at the same time, but women can put on make up and drive (even though they shouldn't).

Why can't women put on mascara and eye shadow with their mouths shut? :smile:

Because applying make-up causes demons to grow inside our heads and we have to open our mouths to release them.

I know all about those studies, and fwiw, I agree with them for the most part. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, and I personally score extremely high on spatial reasoning when tested, so that's probably why I'm more visual as well.

All a 'regular-sized' guy needs to hear from a gal is that he's 6.1" when average is 6.0"

My opinion is that most polls result in inflated measurements.
Even the process of averaging and the term itself lead to inacuracies.
Studies are generally flawed either through sampling or the use of self measurement.
If you put all the information together, supposedly scientific and otherwise,
the 5 - 5.5 inch figure sounds about right to cover most guys with of course a lot of exceptions either side of that (bell curve).
There were a couple of posts way back, by I think a male escort, that to me probably was closer to scientific than a lot of the 'studies'.

The is a book called "Is Size Important?" that, among other things, looks at the various studies and tries to draw conclusions on average. Looking at the data, the author draw the conclusion that the average is somewhere between 5.5 and 6 inches. Looking at how he processes the data, I think this is a pretty reasonable range.

The book also has interesting conclusions on race, body size, correlations to other body parts, etc. If you are interested in the topic, it might be worth picking up.

My penis is just a bit over 7 inches, with a 6 inch girth, and if the average penis size is 6.5 inches, then I am just a bit above average. However, I posted a few pictures on RatARod, and a few of them got into the hall of fame for a while, with a score of 7.8 to 8.0, The highest scoring picture on RatARod scored 8.5. Since most people who post on this site probably have above average sizes, It is a good indication that anything over 7 inches is quite rare. I would guess that the 5.5 average is probably pretty accurate. ( I use "lazlong" for my screen name on RateARod.)
