There is a lot of hype surrounding this movie. It was given an R rating because it was deemed too scary for a PG-13 audience despite no gore, violence, or foul language. I have yet to see this movie. Has anyone else have? If so, what were your thoughts?

My wife and I have met Mrs. Warren. She is a very sweet person. We were having some problems at our house and she was a big help to us. I know a lot of people say oh she is a fake etc, but until you experience what my wife , kids and I experienced and she really helped you, you wouldn't say she was a fake.

What kind of problems???

I saw the movie. I hate scary movies. But it wasn't my turn to pick. Scared the crap out of me. I thought it was good though.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. I finally got to see the movie, and although it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, it was a well crafted movie and the acting was well done. I recommend it.

i saw this movie, and can i say 2 things, 1)it was great. 2)what a big propaganda film for the catholic church. As though evil spirits are warded off by blessings and prayers. Until praying can stop a tsunami or hault a terror attack, give me a break. What if the ghosts are mormons, or jews? what a bogus claim by the warrens.

I saw it as well, and I thought it to be excellent. It is clearly an homage to the occult classics of the seventies and eighties, most notably The Excorsist and Poltergeist. It isn't very original, but it's well crafted and the love for the genre shines through. It's highly recommended to people who love the occult classics.

I was okay with the Christian morale of the movie throughout most of it. But I must say that the quote at the very end of the movie took it way over the edge, like Egg pointed out, pushing it on the verge of propaganda. I simply cannot believe that they thought that was in any way necessary, and I really wish I had left he cinema just a little earlier, as it really tainted my immediate impression of the film.

WE had some problems with seeing things coming up from the basement. The cabinet doors in the kitchen would open and close on their own and the latches had locks on them. To open them you had to press a button to unlatch them. We also had a bed that you could feel like someone was pulling you into the matress and feel swirrling in your back as you lay on it. We had thumping in the walls and would find things moved around in the house as well. Most of the things happened in one major room in the house so we had the priest come and bless the house. He told us to close this one room and lock it and not use it. He blessed the room and place blessed salt on the window and around the door. When he did that , everything in the rest of the house stopped. We could still hear thing in the room, banging on the walls and on the door as you walked by it, but that was it. We lived there 7 years then moved. These things happened and Mrs Warren was a great help for us and helping us diagnose the problem and get a priest in to help up. Most priest are too scared to deal with all this but she knew one and he helped a lot. Just to let you know what happened and that Mrs Warren is a very sweet person and was a great deal of help. People who have not experienced this, cant really say it does not exist. My dad did not believe in any of this, He would say there are not such things as ghost or demons. He slept in the room before we blessed it and locked it and that night we found him and my mother asleep in the living room on both couches. He said he would never stay there again and he was a believer. This happened in Caruthersville, MO. The house is torn down now so this wont happen to anyone else. We don't have any problems now in the town we live. Very peaceful house and really nice to live there with out any problems.

The evil spirits are pretty much never Christian. The witch in this movie for example worshiped Satan. The reason exorcism theoretically works is because of the help of God, Archangels and, depending on the religion, other things (ie: Catholicism has Jesus).

Also, I can't see how this is propaganda for the catholic church since the catholic church didn't do anything in the movie.

I can't speak on behalf of egg, but I wouldn't say that the movie has much to do with the Catholic Church, but surely you agree that the movie is covered in an extremely thick layer of Christian esprit de corps? In this case Catholicism.

Oh, definitely. Though I am not sure how you can do a film about demonic possession without it. Some other religions view sicknesses as possessions, but a sickness isn't as terrifying as the embodiment of evil among us.

I'm aware that God has to be present in a film about the devil, and it doesn't generally bother me. But I think this movie tries to force its views unto the audience much more than, say, The Excorsist. I am primarily referring to the quote that appears during the end critics that basically says "believe in God or be prepared to burn in hell".

Well, it is a quote from one of the guys the movie is about, and is supposed to further the element of this being based on real events. I viewed it less as forcing the views, and more of trying to convince us that it is real to make it that much more terrifying.

Sucked, as does just about every horror movie released nowadays.

Horror movies have become far more focused on cheap shock scares than actually instilling fear in the audience.
