I thought I’d create a more positive dating thread to discuss my new single life :)

It’d be cool if others shared some of their dating experiences too!

Episode 1: I decided to try out some dating apps. Last night I was talking to this pretty cute guy who also seemed nice by his profile. Almost straight off the bat he badmouthed his ex girlfriend. Red flag!

Then not long after I got sent my first unsolicited dick pic (since being single). I told him to fuck off. Whhhyyyy do they have to do that? Pretty sure there was some camera trickery in there too to make it look a half decent size.

I look forward to reading people’s experiences, but I don’t date anymore either. Devotedly and blissfully single.

Unless you want to know how to spot dating scammers online. I got that one down. They even seek me on LinkedIn and FB!

Haven't dated in years. But the first "date" Rem and I went on was to a range (for firearms, not golf). That was fun :D I knew guns were loud, but they were still louder than I was expecting... Made me jump when we walked into the shooting gallery/lanes, even with hearing protection on.

I'm back in the dating arena too. It's a whole lot of really nice and really awful, with not much in between. I stick to bumble only to avoid the unwelcome advances.

That’s a great first date! I’ve only been shooting once (clay pigeon shooting) and I was terrible. I think I’d need to choose an activity I could impress with haha

Sigh that’s what I’m afraid of! 98% of guys on bumble don’t reply to me haha

Ohh what’s a dating scammer?!
Oh, usually a guy from Nigeria pretending to be local, and tries to hook you in with romance so eventually he can get money out of you.

They sit in offices, all day long passing around the same dozens of introductory messages. Usually very romantic, with grammatical and spelling errors, really outline how seriously interested they are in a relationship. They are always working out of town.

If you move to a second email, you find out that they are actually working overseas. Widowed, generally. Might have a child (depends on your age). Blah, blah, blah. Some sad story. And as soon as they get back into town, they are going to take you for the best dinner ever.

They usually use yahoo. I only got to email 2, once. I learned to take a unique sentence from their profile or message and paste it into google. It would generally bring up a dozen other profiles with different names, locations, ages, and pics. I’d report them, they’d get shut down. Same on FB and LinkedIn.

I’ve seen episodes on Dr Phil about this so naively thought they just went after elderly widows. Had no idea they would trawl linked in. This is probably a good wake up call to keep an eye out for them on dating sites.

I’ve sadly been catfished a few times (not for money) so sounds like you’d be able to pick up on that pretty quick. *note to self to get in touch with LaFemme if I ever talk to someone online again who has a “broken camera” or is “working away”.

Oh, yeah. They never have a working camera. Video calls are out of the question. But they are so easy to spot it’s ridiculous. They prey on women (and men) who just want love. I was never that desperate for it.

I will admit that the first time it happened, I was pretty upset. I could forgive (I thought) spelling errors, and he was nice looking, and he sounded sincere. But email 2 sounded fishy, so I googled it. I couldn’t believe I was being scammed. It really hurt my feelings. I really wanted to find someone. I wanted a relationship.

Anyway, it happened to me so many times on Match and on eHarmony, that I just got jaded. Plus some shit happened here. I got comfortable being alone. I’m past it now. But the stuff I learned about catfish (from here) and scammers has been invaluable.

I think it’s totally natural to be disappointed and have hurt feelings over that. I was catfishes by a guy in plenty of fish a number of years ago. I fell for his excuses for weeks. Meanwhile he was getting pictures of me that I wouldn’t exactly share with just anyone. And I told him so many personal things. Thankfully I think in most of the pics I didn’t show my face. He wasn’t after money.... pretty sure he was just some desperate asshole who couldn’t get attention by being himself.

I envy you for being comfortable being alone though. I’d rather be by myself (with my dogs) than be with someone who didn’t make me happy, but I’d still love to have someone.

Nigerian astronaut lost in space needs $3m to get home

LaFemme, you're one of the most literate and least gullible women at LPSG. How the heck does a phony confidence man sitting in some hut in Nigeria ingratiate himself to you in the Canadian prairie? Does he put-on a facade that he's a local: "Hey we can knock down some Labatt or Molson beer and take-in that Calgary Flame game." Or does he appeal to your more romantic side: " After a wondrous weekend at the Fairmont hotel in Banff, you will see that my intentions are sincere." How?

He only got to message number 2 before I outed him. And these guys are pros. The first message was pretty nice, though poorly written. I thought I’d be generous. Ha, ha! No longer! You must be proficient in English to write this lady! (Must be a lot of scammers on this site.). Plus, they do google local restaurants to make it seem authentic. It’s absolutely fascinating.

Oh, glob. Were I to find myself single that's how I would stay. I don't have the energy or disposition to hang with online dating.

If horny makes me climb the walls I'll hit a good old fashion queer bar and hook up like reasonable person.

ML, trust me, I hate it too. But I don’t really have any other options.... I’m pretty shy so can’t just strike up a conversation with someone I don’t know. I’m definitely not going to meet someone decent for something meaningful in a bar (just very low probability). Most of my hobbies are solo activities and unfortunately sport is out for me still due to my knee. Apparently none of my friends have anyone to set me up with either....
