also, those characters he made, they were just random characters for skits, but they had enough of a positive reaction from the fandom that he stuck with them and fleshed them out, because he realized the fandom would consume content involving them. they're not aspects of thomas' personality or life, they're oc's(original characters), completely made up for the sake of a story.
it's no different than a tv show based off a book making an oc character for something but the audience really liked that character, so the producers fleshed the character out and gave it more story

I think pornhub unfollowed him fast. The moment his fans see something sexual on his twitter they freak out, Like that time he liked a gay porn stars nude but when it's him shirtless they all go gaga.
