Uncutpete, you may be surprised, but you don't make a landslide, nor even a trend. You, too, represent a variant of "the passing panhandler" phenomenon. You extrapolate from your own experience and think, ipso facto, that's how everybody else must live. Nomads in the barren desert herding camels and South Sea islanders wearing grass skirts probably thought everyone lived just like they did at one time. Even sophisticated people in Manhattan fall into that trap. The New Yorker movie critic Pauline Kael once expressed complete disbelief at the landslide of 1972, "I don't know anyone who voted for Nixon!" Pauline, like Dorothy, wasn't in Kansas.True, but I still don't think it's that common. This falls into the category of "the passing panhandler" phenomenon. ... As humans we tend to extrapolate from whatever's unusual that catches our attention.
I think it actually falls into another kind of "human" reaction -- not believing things that we haven't experienced ourselves. Some people on this thread think that wanting a threesome for added size is very rare, because it is outside of their personal sphere. However, I have been with many dozen couples who want an outside man to join them.
I suppose the divergence may lie in how we interpret "common". To the original woman's question, I responded statistically, that as a percentage of the population three-ways and swinging probably weren't that common. That doesn't mean many people don't do it. Lots of people are members of LPSG, but if you stopped people on the street and asked if they were members, you could probably go all day without getting a positive response (even assuming they were totally forthright). There are probably a couple thousand LPSGers in New York, Los Angeles and London, but each of those cities has a population in the millions, so, per capita, they're not that common.
That was my point, not that lots of people didn't.
As to the "other kind of 'human' reaction -- not believing things that we haven't experienced ourselves," I've had a number of three-ways and an extremely active sex life. I've been to nude beaches and resorts, sex and swinger clubs. I've also explored many areas of the "dark side" which I don't even bring up in private chat. But I'm also aware that most people are a little more sedate sex-wise. The last I heard, the average male lays somewhere around five to six women in his life. This is not the makings of a worldwide orgy, let alone a national slumber party.
But I concede that "the birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it" - just not as often as we think, and usually in twos.
