I think it refers to the British term "chicken" which was the word we used to denote a young gay guy before the American term "twink" became popular. I haven't heard anyone use the term chicken in at least 10 years, I think it's almost completely died out.

Edit: It's worth noting that chicken usually meant a young gay guy specifically, whereas twink is used to denote a certain look, gay or straight.
