There are tons of hot Asian dudes that don't act like insecure, arrogant "edgy" people who just discovered GAY. He's cute and nice enough just not hot to a lot of people, especially other more effeminate people like myself. I could see being friends with him but just like my feminine self, a lot of people aren't into a more flamboyant gay dude. Liking a nerdy basic white guy, 3 out of the 4 OG Try Guys over a singular gay Asian dude, doesn't make people inherently racist lol.
Obviously there are going to be a few but I don't think for the most part it's racism that is making people attracted to a cringey, doughy, straight DILF over a trim, handsome Asian dude that is openly gay. It's probably more insecurity, or like in my case, relating to Eugene more than the others. So Keith and Ned are more sexualized. When I look at Eugene's body, I'm jealous. When I look at Keith and Ned's I'm turned on.
I kind of got the sense that Try Guys was something that Eugene fell into and got a lot of success from, but was never as passionate about it as the others. If it weren't for COVID and Ned's scandal, he probably would have left four or five years ago instead of one and a half.
While I think it affected his appeal to some. The criticism was about how disinterested and disconnected he was from the Try Guys. He genuinely seemed annoyed to be there most times to the point of being cold and pretentious. I personally think his issue with the Try Guys stemmed from seeing other Buzzfeed personalities go on to have massive success.
