They're not forbidden, but rarely done because American films with unsimulated sex receive a NC-17 rating, (by a ratings board that’s 3000 miles away from Hollywood), and the film won’t be shown except possibly in a few privately owned cinemas throughout the country.

I don't think so. I think those scenes are the only nude or at least "sex scenes" in the film. Everything else seems to be this weird dark comedy about life or existence.
