If he wants a sample, he'll want a fresh one. I have to see my urologist for my regular 6 month checkup next week. I have a history of kidney stones. It's nothing major to get the DRE. I sure don't like the greasy after feel.

Semen is like a popsicle. Unless it's frozen it goes bad quickly. If he needs to produce one at the office he can. I did mention bringing a nice fresh jar of morning pee in a PM.

I think you should take a semen sample along, as this seems to be the thing that made you concerned enough to make the appointment he's sure to want one. You might as well cover all bases and take a pee sample along too.
They only need a tiny bit not a bucket full :)

I was curious as what to expect as far as exam??

Depends why you're going. Pretty much the only standard I've run into is that they all want a urine sample. Doesn't matter why you're there. Sometimes I've just blown it off because it had nothing to do with why I was there but it is pretty standard. The rest just depends on your complaint.

Hey everybody
I made it thru mu first visit to the urologist. The worst part was waiting an hour with a bunch of other guys and I know we were all thinking the same thing" I wonder whats wrong with his dick"
The Dr. was cool ( kinda cute) and very professional. He asked me a buch of questions about my general health and some sexual history stuff. He asked about my symptoms which is that my semen has been a funny dark yellowish color lately. He asked about how much alcohol and caffeine I drink ( not much) and about exercise ( which I do alot) He thought maybe I had hurt my prostrate in a spin class but as we talked he asked about using asprin and I said that had used it awhile ago when I had a flu bug for 3 days. He then examind my penis and testicles for about 30 seconds and then had me bend over and checked my prostrate for about 5 seconds. It was totally painless and not humiliating at all. He thinks that from when I was sick I still have some bacteria or infection that has made a home in my prostrate and prescribed Siphro to get rid of it. One pill twice a day for two weeks. I also gave a urine sample and will get results back next week. He didn't think it was anything big to worry about so I am relieved.
The lesson is don't be afraid to go to a urologist. It's better to know than to freak out and worry about it.
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice especially Jason Els...He is super smart and really easy to talk to.
Now I can take some new pics of my cock and cum for my profile. Stay tuned...

Can't help you with that question.

I figured out the problem when I first started reading this thread and he confirmed it when he mentioned needing to piss all the time and only producing a few drops.

Sometimes, when I have had a very mild case of this, I started drinking large amounts of water, took cranbury concentrate tablets, and jerked off as often as possible trying to flush out the system and also peeing as often as possible keeping fresh urine in the bladder, not urine that has been there several hours.

Anytime you go to an urologist, you need to not pee before you go. Be sure to pee two or so hours before the visit. Close enough that you don't have a full bladder and have to pee before yoo get to the office, but not so close that you aren't able to pee in the cup at the office.

Most urologists I know will not use a pee sample taken at home, unless you use a cup provided by the urologist to prevent contamination.

All men at age 40 should have an examination. Based on that, the urologist may schedule a yearly or every other year examination.

I had my first prostate exam in my twenties. The doctor wanted to establish a "norm" of my healthy prostate so there would be something to compare with later if I had problems.

OK GUYS - Please listen. I just went through this. It is so important to have blood work done to check your PSA. (Prostate score). under 4.0 is the best, over 4.0 not good, over 9.0 really not good.

I had an annual physical with blood work. I am 49 and always had a PSA at 1.3. It junped to 5.0 I freaked out and thought it was cancer. My brother is 64 and has prostate cancer. Plus my Dad had bladder cancer.

I started the antibotics for two weeks. And yes, no caffiene, booze or spicy food. All those things iritate the prostate. Of course I had to ask why, they increase the acid in the urine that aggrevates the prostate.

Another major point. I was told that antibotics are ver difficult to penetrate the prostate so this could take a long time. Oh yeah! He did a DRE on me and milked out the alkaline fluid in the prostate ( I had no idea the prostate contained that) I was infected BIG TIME and no symptoms. The fluid that came out burned soooo bad due to the infection. Well, the anitbotic DID NOT work.

I then took BACTRUM with 1200MG of Advil (hmm it recuces the sweeling in the prostate to accept the antibotic) vit. E, Zinc and Saw Palmetto. 2 weeks later, no infection and back to a PSA od 1.3

For all you men, we all need to know how our bodies work and what is what. Get tested and take care of yourself.

In truth, I don't know either. Barring other physical issues I do know that most doctors hand out Viagra et al. pretty easily so you're more than likely to go home with at least a few samples.

Thanks for that jazzz14! It's very true. Don't screw with your plumbing by not going to a doctor out of embarrassment. So many men just don't go to any doctor, let alone a urologist, until they can't ignore the symptoms any longer and by then it's too late.

This site is dedicated to part of that plumbing and to keep it healthy it's essential that you don't let anything keep you from attending to your sexual health. Ever. Always better to be safe than sorry. No man is happier than walking out of a doctor's office with the words, "it's nothing to be concerned about." Catching potential problems early will save you time, cost, and possibly your life.

I forgot to add: Doctor's have no real idea how you get an infection in the prostate.

What they do know is: It's not sexaully tranmitted. Having bad gums can allow bacteria to get in the bloood stream and penetrate the prostate. It can come from a uniary tract infection and also from the they call back flow of unrine.

It's an odd thing but at least they know how to get rid of it.

I spoke to a freind of mine yesterday. He is 58, PSA was always under 2.0 Now its near 3.0 His Dr. only said: come back in 4 months for another blood test. Thats is not good enough. I told him about me and said you could have an infection like I did. There is only two ways to tell: have him put that finger up there and milk out the alkaline fluid or bring in a sample of semen. They can see the infection under a microscope if its there.

I really got educated during this and felt it necessary to share.

Guys stay healthy and for you woman, make your man aware.

Depends on the Dr's style. For a general practitioner, he may just give you a trial pack of Viagra based on what you tell him. Alternatively, he may want to do a basic exam (penis, testicles, prostate, hernias); but in reality, these often don't really give much useful info in these cases.

Viagra (and similar drugs) should work if the cause is stress. Basically, they lower the threshold for erection and then make it easier to maintain an erection. Normally there is a balance in the penis between cGMP, which favors erection, and PDE, which breaks down cGMP and stops an erection. Viagra blocks PDE, keeping cGMP around longer so that it can accumulate and you don't need constant messages being sent to the penis to continue being erect.

If you suspect you have a problem, don't be foolish. See your health care practisoner/family doctor immediately. If you don't have a doctor you can see, or a clinic, contact your hospitals number and ask for a referral. If you see blood in your urine or ejaculation or stool, do not wait and see a doctor immediately. Make sure the person you speak to for an appointment if you get a referral or a are making an appointment with your personal health care provider knows the full reason for your call...i.e. you have blood showing up where it is not suppossed to be! That is immediate treatment and not "next Tuesday at 2:30". If you can't find anyone to see you that day then go to your hospitals ER.
Good luck.
