As I consider re-entering the dating world as a pushing-60 widower, I'm considering whether to surgically remove myself from the gene pool. Sex would only be in a committed monogamous relationship where other health concerns were addressed, but there's no guarantee that my paramour (whomever she is) would be safely past her child-bearing years, so I'd like to be able to offer a condom-free option.

Any words of wisdom from those who've undergone the procedure, or from their ladyfriends? Things that the urologist didn't mention which took you by surprise?

There's no one on my radar currently, so there's no rush to make a decision, just gathering facts. My brother is a club member, but this isn't the kind of thing we talk about.

Well...I decided that I didn't want to have kids many years ago.
Family health history & honestly, I like sleeping in/eating crap/watching scary movies/getting laid whenever I want.
The concern I had was, what if the person I fall for wants kids?
@Snarky_succubus is about 12 years younger than I am.
We had a few talks about it, because it wouldn't be fair to her if she wanted them.
Turns out, she didn't want any, either.
Pretty much the same reasons I had.
She helped research the Dr and procedures available.
She drove me to the Dr....
So, clearly, she was on-board. Lol.
I opted for the scalpel-free procedure.
Small incision. No stitches.
Went to work the next day.
There was some discoloration. Kinda looked bruised or something.
Went away in a week or so.
No paid meds needed.
No ice packs.
Small amount of blood came out with precum during some early edging sessions.
Dr said it was normal.
Went away quickly.
Function and sex drive are unaffected.
If anything, there was an increase. Lol.
Maybe due to not having the concern of accidental pregnancy.
Only regret is not doing it sooner

I responded well to it and had no issues afterwards and in fact not very much pain. The only thing that might be said to be surprising was the first orgasm afterwards. It was extremely powerful and slightly painful and gave my throbbing headache to the point I was worried I popped a blood vessel. In fact it was the closet I came to the very first orgasm or two I ever had when I first discovered the concept way back in the day. I was also worried about the fact I could only dribble the first few times and believed all the stories about the procedure effecting ejaculation, but after a few I was shooting like normal.

The only really truly negative experience I had was more the embarrassment when I went back with my semen sample to test for swimmers and the receptionist rather loudly announced to the whole waiting room what I was there for .

I did mine almost 35 years ago and the hardest thing was convincing the military doctors to do it because of my age. I had decided that any having other kids would be by adoption. The doctor did the first side and a resident female doctor in training did the second and all her pulling and tugging hurt so she rested her hand on my penis and apologized a bit. Everyone is told to not have sex for a week but I was pounding the wife the following night.

Yep I've been shooting blanks for 30 odd yrs, defiantly was the right decision for my X-wife's sake. It was easier for me to get fixed than for her with recovery and all. We had 2 and didn't want anymore children. Dam I think it was like 4 or 5 hrs after, I was busting a ball to make sure every thing still worked . Your doing the right thing tho.. taking your time with the decision making on this one. Maybe for some extra peace of mind, you could put some little wrigglers into cryo or something. Good luck Bro whatever you decide.

Having had it done i say go for it. It wasn't that bad. After the shot all i felt was some slight tugging and pulling. It was a female doctor doing it and she even cracked a few jokes. Wife was in there and watched the whole thing. Took about 20minutes and all done. Recovery was pretty quick and by the next week was back to sex. Be sure you are sterile before unprotected sex though. Its a great feeling to not have to worry about birth control.

no disrespect intended....but did he get a test to be sure he was, in fact, the father?
I don't know if he did but the boy certainly looks more like him than like the mother. Plus circumstances would make it hard for her to cheat on him. I don't think anyone doubts he's the father.

Had it done after my ex and I had our second child, didn’t want her to get her tubes tied more invasive and risk. I would do it again I’m a second, nice not to have to deal with contraception when in a relationship.

Update: the woman I'm seriously seeing is surgically infertile (post-menopause hysterectomy), and I'm a monogamy kinda guy, so there's no reason to undergo the procedure. Keeping the factory seal intact for now.

Thanks for all the wisdom.

I was wondering - you are 60'ish, just how much cradle-robbing do you plan to do? One would think that the majority of potential lady friends would be beyond child bearing age. :)

I'm 60. I would have considered women in their 40s and 50s. 40s is definitely NOT beyond childbearing. (My ladyfriend is 56 BTW and had her last child at 40ish)

As long as they have not gone through menopause and still having a period they are fertile, I knew a woman at 75 in AAA condition, looked 45 and was getting married after the death of her husband who went to the Doc to stop her period to keep from getting pregnant
