Vegan

A lot of people who complained about feeling like shit on a vegan diet probably didn't get in enough calories, most plant based foods are not very calorically dense so depending on your food choices it can be difficult to get in enough calories.

I can't speak for anyone else but I never lost any weight so calories weren't the issue for me.

What did your diet consist of? I know when I first started I had a difficult time with it because there was very little variety in regards to food choices, which creates the potential for nutritional deficiencies.

Yeah, when I was a vegan my weight plateaued and I couldn't drop fat nor gain muscle to save my soul at a certain point. It was healthy, but still a bit higher than I wanted.

Mine was far from healthy. Honestly, the only reason I ever tried veganism to begin with is because I am allergic to dairy products. Not severely and not lactose intolerant... but it causes sinus issues and headaches if I eat a ton of it. My ENT told me no more... At that point I was like "Well, fuckit... I may as well give up meat too. See what happens". It just doesn't serve me well.

Like I said before... It varied. I tried all sorts of combinations. The result was always the same "I feel like shit". I just need a relatively low carb/low sugar and higher protein diet. Trying to get in enough complete protein while keeping my carbs and calories where they need to be is all but impossible and not worth the effort for me. I may have felt differently if I had seen any benefit from being vegan... but I didn't.

Hey! I have to admit I have been a HUGE meat and junk food eater but I've recently had an injury at work that has stopped me for doing my usual duties that had me doing over 8 klms (often getting up to 10) a shift for 10 shifts per fortnight, 70 hour weeks, on call and responsible for 3 staff and 36 bed palliative care bed ward.

WOW!! Being laid up and sitting on my butt my weight has really ballooned and being bored to tears with my enforced inactivity( and eating my head off) I hit netflix.

I discovered Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead 1 and 2. Talk about a smack between the eyes!

Coming from my background it made sense and, suddenly plant based diet did as well.

I searched for a "soft" entry into plant based diet after the 60 day reboot.

I discovered Weekday Vegetarian which means that you eat nothing with a face from Monday to Friday.
On weekends all bets are off.

What distressed me the most is about vegetarian recipes was the reliance on cheese, carbs and, the big killer SOY.

Trying to side step soy is darn hard esp. when you love Asian food.
I think I may have found a good soy sauce substitute in the form of Coconut Aminos.
Protein powder ezy protein which is a sprouted brown rice powder and flax seeds for b12.

I'm still finding my way but I hope I will still have my old energy levels eating this diet when I return back to my normal duties.

Dragons don't do well on vegetarian diets lol.

Coconut aminos are where it's at! Soy doesn't agree with me and that stuff fills the soy sauce void, for sure :)
