What does "bump" mean?

It's the word your partner uses when she first tells you she has written off your car.
Nahhhh, that be Ummmmmm :) No B or P. Anyway, why do the make cars out of metal?...Ok, save it for the Why, Why, Why thread.

It's because.....They're heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere. (Poltergeist) No, can't post the short.

I know the original poster is happy with the replies but I would like to add that I think it is sometimes quite sad when I see members "bump" their own threads especially when there hasn't been any interest from anyone else and they repeatedly "bump" the thread.
I'm very good at "killing my own threads" but I get the feeling this one is going to keep going...
On posting this reply I'm sending it up to No.1 (1 of approx 360) but this isn't the same as a "bump".

No one kills a thread like I do.... go through my list of comments to see all the threads I've terminated.

oh ps: *bump*

Hey jjsjr, I a great thread killer too. I don't know what it is about my comments but sometimes the thread just lays there for a while and then dies:confused:

I’m glad someone asked and this thread has been bumped so more of us can benefit from knowing what bump actually means here.

Every time I’ve seen it, I always assumed it was kind of a snarky jab to the post directly above it indicating that their post is somehow irrelevant to them. Bump to me has always been a “cancel that last comment” indicator.

bump (slang)

a snort of cocaine

a shot of whiskey taken with a beer

a dance from the 1970s

sexual intercourse

in social media a single word used to keep a thread from disappearing into oblivion which evokes a wide range of emotions from users of said media

@Arty100 bumping a thread that has been active for years is also sometimes called thread necromancy. More often than not cases of thread necromancy are rather obnoxious, because they are brief and contribute nothing to the thread; usually it looks like the necromancer had no clue the thread was so old and doesn't realize thread necromancy is a faux-pas.
