AFAIK, a top gets paid a little bit more than a bottom in studio porn. The model maybe is a versatile or a bottom off camera, but he still acts as a top on camera for money. This weird trend has been prevailing for years until OF starts to thrive. Famous studios like Aylo/Mindgeek or Gamma run by straight guys have no idea what gay porn fans want to watch.
The situation on OF is opposite. More and more models list their topping scenes on the wall, but put their bottoming scenes on PPV. As long as fans are willing to buy their bottoming scenes, this trend will continue.

I think it's usually about equal RE: top and bottom pay, depending on the company. It also really depends on how "famous" of a porn star you are, if you have fans, if you are in high demand, etc.
I do think there's an allure of top-only performers giving up their cherries and asking for higher pay that doesn't really exist in the opposite direction (no one is excited about bottom performers doing their first top scene). That's one situation where bottoms make more $.
I think Chris Damned really spearheaded that whole "only bottoming in PPV" thing. He tops exclusively for studio porn (not counting RFC since it's just recycled OF scenes) but then bottoms in OF PPV.
I'm realllllly over the trend of PPVs on OF though. It's worse than studio porn, because not only do you have the base subscription but every time you buy a PPV you're basically buying another subscription all over again. These bottoms are getting too greedy.

It's normal that tops get paid better than bottoms in some gay porn studios. But there is an exception too. Those long time top-only models get paid well for the bottoming debut. A hot guy's cherry popping scene is always a selling point, like SC's Brandon, or Men's Bo Sinn. Bo got paid $10k for his bottoming debut, and $5k for his 2nd bottoming. A normal model won't get paid that much for his bottoming debut, just like the payout for a Hollywood's superstar vs. a third-rate actor. The market speaks.
IMHO, I agree tops and bottoms should get paid equally. Tops have to put a lot of efforts as a driver. A mediocre or lazy top easily ruins a scene. Some tops can not even stay hard. Bottoms have to clean the rectum before filming, and they may get a rectal injury from rough sex. It's not easy for everyone.
OF has turned into an AEBN 2.0, or even worse. But I think their greediness is not gonna work forever. The market speaks. Once more and more customers get tired of their ridiculous PPV price and their scams, they won't spend as much as they used to. Eventually, the price will be back to a balance point, which is acceptable for both content creators and customers.
The one thing I'll say RE: Rizzo is he was complaining about one specific company that primarily makes straight porn (Dogfart).
I think we should be careful about implying one studio = an industry standard, especially since he is directly quoted as saying that being underpaid as a bottom never happened to him before until Dogfart asked him to do a scene.
I also don't know how helpful it is to try to use price rate trends from 30 years ago to talk about how tops and bottoms are being paid now. Just the data scientist inside me talking
