I just think that it's quite probable and I'd like more gay actors on our screens...not just for selfish reasons, if it was just for selfish reasons, then I guess I wouldn't care.

I find that discourse to be ridiculous, I've seen straight actors play their characters very well. This is just tribalism.

I don't think he said anything about just playing gay though. He said he wants more gay actors on our screen. I assume meaning playing gay OR straight. There's nothing wrong with that. But maybe I'm speaking out of turn and @Rainofar34 can clarify for himself.

I'm not sure what he meant but I assume it's about straight actors playing gay roles, which has been a long running debate.
I find uneven chances in the industry and tremendous accolades for many straight actors playing gay roles to be ridiculous. Few years ago it seemed to be a good career-starter for young aspiring actors (to some extent it still is). Those movies would triumph in the cinemas and unknowns would turn into the stars while gays in the industry would...just be somewhere in the background, I guess? So people who often lost career opportunities for being true to themselves and straight beginners who played one gay role and now have whole world at their feet. How ironic. And then little bit of queerbaiting for PR. I remember reading about some early Gregg Araki movies, mostly straight casts, those guys would do anything to distance themselves from any gayness. Many others would reject the offer outright. Now people are killing each other to play that kind of parts. I find both approaches equally shallow and fake. But yet here we are.
I guess that gay actors are just awful at playing gay and that's why straight guys are beating them to most parts. Seems logical.
I generally want more of them on our screens, more people not afraid about the effect the coming out would have on their careers, but I would also like them to be more involved in queer cinema, to take a more substantial part in telling their own stories. We had a lot of big movies and TV series about LGBT issues, big studio movies where you would be hard pressed to find a gay guy (or girl), most were acclaimed and made few stars...the movies made by gays for gays usually aren't as fortunate. And we must think twice about who we consider an "ally", many people do not care really, even some homophobes in the past were okay with playing gay parts if it helped their career prospects. That's why I'm not counting on this "gay renaissance" we had in cinema over the years to really change the attitudes (some seem to think that'll be the case).

My point was Will's Sexuality in his business, I'm praising him for being open-minded and continuing to do these kinds of roles. I don't think we need an entire philosophical debate.
Well, you asked and expressed opinion on that and I answered. But I agree that we don't need to talk about it here and that he has the right for his privacy.
