WOOF -

This is something that men have said to me here.
I know lots of stuff but i will confess that when men say this,
i don't know what it means.
Will anyone translate this one syllable for me please? And thank you.

Its what most bears say from one to another... like a mating call.
A "bear" is a hairy gay guy... (also some others with subtle variations).

Its like saying, "hey cutie" but all in one word.
Happy hunting!

It is shorthand for "Oh my God, you are hot!"

I take it to be like a gay cat (dog) call. Like a butch bark.:biggrin1:

We have a WOOFfest here in Ft Lauderdale every year, with a clothing-optional party around the pool of one of the many guest houses in town.

It's a lot of fun, but I'm glad I'm not the one who cleans out the pool filter when it's over: you could make a coat with all that hair, I'm sure.

hahahaha:) Kinda like the Lei Bear Day party in Oahu! *over Labor Day* hahaha

Clogged pools all over town... and instead of seaweed on the beach...fur..hahaha

More importantly, do you answer with a growl, another woof, or something louder?

A low growl works well for me.

Huh? I don't understand. i suppose i answer with a 'Huh? what?'

:biglaugh::lmao::rofl:

:) Written its means you're hot... when said...vocal inflections ...depth of voice...can mean lots more :)

just take it as a compliment and go with it! :) hahah

Exactly. When I woof at you, it means I am liking what I am seeing or hearing.

but i am not a hairy guy.
but if its a compliment then
thank you.

You don't have to be. I am not hairy either. I do consider myself a part of the bear community (my hubby is a bear).

You can WOOOF! back or Growl (this is typed as "GrrRRrr").

As Bbucko said, a low growl can work very well.

"Woof!" originated on the Bear scene, but seems to be spreading.

How about "Phwoar" (pronounced like fffwore)? I think that came from building site workers and van-drivers, got popularised by the British tabloid press then adopted by UK gay men. Means the same thing - "hot!"
