I found his writing to be too dark. I think that his obvious mental illness showed too much in his work. Maybe he chose the "honorable" way to die to atone for his guilt about his sexuality.

why is it that anything that is creative and dark automatically means the artist is mentally ill? I find those who create happy and sunny works to be at times the opposite in their lives.

I mean I'm not saying Yukio did the right thing by killing himself but perhaps he understood it differently.

I think he had always wanted to stage his death as something erotic. I read somewhere that he underwent an elaborate preparation to ensure that his body is in perfect state before the theatrical suicide, including a milk only diet to prevent from soiling himself while he dies.
