Recently saw dermatologist for exam...Was this exam thorough enough?

No. You were the victim of negligent malpractice. The whole reason you go to a dermatologist is that the doc knows what various lesions/cancers/whatever look like in all stages. Probably you don't. So the doc should be examining the entire surface of your skin, from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet, looking for things that should not be there. I'd get my money back, and search for a doctor who takes his or her practice seriously.

It all depends on which doctor and why I'm there. For my annual comprehensive physical and the dermatologist, I am naked under gown but for routine diabetes checks I don't undress at all. At the urologist I just drop my pants for the exam. As a kid, I was just stripped to my underwear but that was a long time ago.
