That was very funny and confirmed all my suspicions. I hate camping and I'm not fond of hippies.

I have a couple of different groups of friends that regularly go, I have helped them out with their costumes, like soldering the connections on those neon glow wires.

They try to get me to go, it seems interesting, but I am not going to up a week of the short gorgeous Alaskan summer for a week at a dusty dry lake bed on an alkaline desert.

Yeah, was sarcastic and funny. Thanks naughty. I would enjoy the nudity if my skin would tolerate it. But I wouldn't enjoy the substance abuse. IMO a form of induced mental decline.

I agree with him AND his detractors. Those things, you get out of them what you put into them. He went expecting to hate it and so he did. Still, the harsh environment makes it sound like a place where you'd want exceptionally good society, and it doesn't seem to offer that.

And I know they conscientiously clean up afterward, but the Burning Man itself is pretty environmentally unfriendly (but it doesn't compare to motor racing...)

I read a book written about it and it seemed fine--if you wanted to go--I go to Science fiction conventions and it often is the same kind of weird. You can spend $1500, get laid, take drugs, mess with people's brains--all in an air conditioned hotel.

Then again, there was a MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE episode that looked like it was filmed at Burning Man.

I went a couple of years ago & it was interesting. The environment is pretty severe though, & the whole thing is too commercial for me.

LOL! How did I guess that at least one person here could speak about Burning man from personal experience. My brother who sent me this link said parts of it have always intrigued him but after he read that he said NOT! LOL!

Burning Man was cool about 12 years ago.

Since then it has become about big money... and giving folks a license to act like idiots.
Its become a pale and commercialized shadow of what it started out as... the folks who have been going for years are re-living the nostalgia of how great it was their first time or two and have not clued in to the decay that set in almost immediately...
the decay that follows close behind ALL experiments in anarchy.

If you want to see some wacky creativity and have a good party, in beautiful settings with flushing toilets and real restaurants... drive up to Arcata California for the kinetic sculpture race.

the ORIGINAL kinetic sculpture race... where the sculptures have to cross Humboldt bay...
