Several weeks ago the neighborhood children a couple of properties over arrived at my house to sell me popcorn in a box as a fundraiser for their little cub scout troop. I happily paid $15.00 for a one dollar box of popcorn. There wre 3 boys (all brothers) 4, 6 and 8 years old.
This morning they arrived at the house to deliver my purchase. I saw them jump out of the car, run to the trunk as one got the popcorn, the other got my order form and the little one following along.
When I opened the door they were so excited, each one having more to say than the other ones. lol. We had a nice visit and they invited me to visit their little hot cocoa stand at the town square Christmas event this evening.
I couldn't say no.
And so I went into town and found their little stand and paid my twenty five cents for a cup of hot cocoa from them. They are the cutest little copper topped kids with buzz cuts and freckles. It lifts my spirits to see and talk with them. Their conversational skills are better than many adults. They are privately tutored at home.
So while I was in town for the big Christmas on the town square night, I walked around hoping to have a perfectly anonymous outing, just walking around, poking my head into the antique shops, taking in the live music, watching the cloggers, getting a coffee when all of a sudden i kept getting spotted by people I know. This was exasperating as I had a ball cap on, pulled down to my eyeballs and yet I was still spotted and people called out and were happy to talk. It was nice to see friends and there are far worse things than friends happy to see me. lol.
All in all it was a fun evening. All day I was stricken with the memory of those great little boys. I thought that at this point I would have my own happy children so I was a bit saddened by the fact that I am still single and without a wife or children and wonder where is this woman that would like me to be her husband and happy to be my wife and happy to parent amazing little ones with me.
I suppose tis the season to look aorund outside of myself and be happy for those that are fortunate and for those that are less fortunate than I am, to figure out how to extend kindness to them.
