I havent said anything offensive, just questioned in a polite manner whether it was appropriate to post a memorial here.

The answer is yes.

What these soldiers gave deserves to be remembered by everyone. And not just on one day either.

I think it's great to remember what happened during the Great War. Everyone who thinks it's not worth remembering should go to the Westhoek in Flanders and talk to the farmers. Two weeks ago, a farmer and his son died because their plow struck a WWI bomb. Every year there are over 3000 emergency calls to the Belgian army to dismantle WWI bombs! So WWI is still very much so a part of life in West-Flanders.
I was in Westouter near Ypres last week and there are cemeteries everywhere and the war has shaped the landscape where I live. From old ruins of railroad bridges in the countryside to bomb holes still visible in the pastures...

Can i just make it clear that I am not in any way saying that soldiers should not be remembered or undermining the importance of rememberance day.

My four year daughter came home from school the other day and proceeded to tell me about Rememberance day and how we should
respect and remember all the soldiers who fought for freedom. I nearly
cried right then and there as I don't think I've ever been prouder.

Hug a Veteran today and every day to say thanks.

I had to memorize this poem for grade 8. I still remember the words. Very touching, a moments silence goes out to all whom fought for my freedom to do all the things I can do today.

Srevejames I am sure you intended no offense but your posting has probably given the false impression you are a curmudgeon. I don't become all mawkish for one day of the year just because I am a soldier. Being from a long established military family we privately have issues with one self indulgent charity (there are dozens quietly working to ameliroate the suffering of ex servicemen) the RBL. But as soldiers have always done we keep our gobs shut.
It is one's duty to remember maimed colleagues and fallen comrades. A parade is an outward show of mourning and respect. But I make it a point to remember all the victims of war, non-combatants, innocent women and children.

Thank you for remembering these men and women who were willing to step forward so others could be kept safe

Here in the U.S. 11/11 is known now as Veteran's Day (once known as Armistice Day)and is in honor of all those who have served including those still living For the fallen soldiers there is a remembering at the end of May known as Memorial Day

I'm pretty sure many here have ancestors who fell as young men and old in the folly of war...I lay a wreath every year with my family at my local village memorial where 2 of my father's great uncles and one great great uncle are named, I would feel myself to be an empty vessel, soulless, if I ever allowed myself to forget.

It is so important that we always remember, I am proud to wear my poppy every year, in remembrance of all of the fallen.

My two young nieces came round, both wearing poppies their dad had bought them, the little one was too young to understand the relevance but the older one (9) told me all about why she was wearing a poppy, it was lovely to know that the day had meaning even for someone so young.

Wore a poppy at work since I never have any change to give to poppy collecters and I'd feel awful not buying one. Gave the 2 minute silence aswell but some prick still wanted to be served whilst it was on.

I also want to buy that help our heros wristband the sun is selling.
