Levi 501 doesn't fit me well, Wranglers are much better.

And it seems all the posts are focusing on the extremes; some of us prefer something somewhere in between "falling off your ass" baggy and "I can't move or sit down" tight. I wouldn't wear jeans if they were not comfortable. I can't imagine that some of the sagging I've seen was a comfortable fit. I've even seem some with a belt cinching their jeans below the butt-crack, just their boxers covering the ass.

Why do you always have to make so much sense?

I work in the fashion industry and call tell you point blank, NOTHING IS TIMELESS. 501s have lost tons of market-share, and the unwillingness of Levi’s to change their business strategy away from this style has resulted in a business teetering on verge of extinction… when was the last time you heard of high fashion coming out of JC Penney, Kohl’s, or Sears? Take your 501s and burn them. Three major problems exist in the 501 design. 1. Tapered leg. NEVER BUY TAPERED STYLES This results in making practically everybody look shorter and fatter then they really are because you are adding volume to the top half of your body and reducing volume from the knee down. Tapering only helps individuals who are underweight or slight in build. Straight-legged styles create balance between the top and bottom halves of a man. If you are barrel-chested or have a belly try loose fit straight leg jeans, the wider you legs appear the slimmer your upper body will appear. 2. High rise. These jeans will say natural waist, or sits at the waist. They sit at the navel and do not flatter the front or the back; in fact they create a much larger backside than is necessary. 3. Stonewashed. This is a style that says i'm old and out of touch. I’m not saying that you have to run out and purchase jeans that have been splattered with acid or destroyed by sanding or even whiskered. I’m simply saying if the style says Stonewashed PUT IT DOWN and WALK AWAY. There are other styles, and a sales associate or consultant should be able to steer you towards jeans that are for a mature man that are not crazy and too youthful, but distinguished and updated to current trends. An updated pair of jeans can easily make a man look 5-10 years younger. Go down to the GAP or Banana take a look at the Denim Wall and try on a few different fits and styles… if your store has unisex fitting rooms don’t be afraid to walk out of the room and ask another customer, especially a woman (they’ll know if your ass looks good)… walk around in them… and don’t get hung up on sizes… take a few sizes in with you some bigger some smaller… but remember you have to take time, like a good half an hour to an hour
You might want to take an "Ativan" You sound a little worked up!! I don't choose to take, "Fashion" Quite so seriously dude! In the end, its how much I've laughed, loved, and done integral things for the world around me....lastly...not be caught up quite so intensly in what "They," the Industry, say is EnVogue. It all ebbs and flows like the tide, whereas I will continue to be comfortable, regardless...

It has a lot to do with the sensibilities. Reading this thread I notice all the people who like those super tight jeans and 501 and nut-huggers seem to be 35 or older. It's a different generation. You all liked super tight nut hugger jeans. But the generation before you wore pantalones and more average fitting pants. With different generations come different styles. Just like bell-bottoms faded out, so to did nut-huggers. My generation likes baggy pants, it's our style. It's not that we aren't proud of our bodies, but

a. we dont want our dick and nuts showing to the whole word (Even though most average-to large size guys will still make a bulge in baggy pants)
b. it's an image.

Why were bell bottoms once popular. Why were nut-hugging 501's once popular. It fit the times, the people, the perception, the mind, the generation.

You people who like 501's and claim to be unable to understand why my generation like baggy pants: you aren't supposed to understand. You're not from my generation, so you aren't influenced by the times. In much the same way I can't for the life of me understand why you older people want a second skin made of denim. The way none of us can understand who the hell would don khaki pantolones and overalls. It's each generation that has it's own.
Being as which I started this thread, I find myself wanting to comment on all the varied opinions, but alas...I'll pick my battles, hehehe!!! In this case; OK!! So your not down with the 501's, COOL, its not my intention for every guy to wear them, therefore looking like a bunch of idiot clones. But I gotta tell ya,' I get the impression that you automatically conotate 501's w/ 2nd skin fit. NOT TRUE!!! Apparantly the guys you've seen, wear them this way, I personally weigh in at about 175 lbs. and am 6'2". Very lean!! I have a 31-32" waist yet in 501's prefer 34's. I dont care for ANY jeans to be 2nd skin. I want room for my legs and normal movement, not to mention this sites namesake, my large dick. It looks better in the crotch when the fabric sort of gently hugs everything. certainly not squeezing like a freekin' vise! EEEEKKKKK!!! SO, I digress....we all wear what we wear, Lets just wear what WE find most comfortable and what WE feel HOT in. Pants hanging down over ones butt all gathered around the knees and ankles looking like "Charlie Chaplin" with a Gangsta attitude,... I'm just sayin!''

Put me in the pro-501 group as well.

I just got back from Australia and it looks like tighter jeans are coming back in style overseas. And the guys looks great in them! Just my opinion, but I've always thought part of the reason younger guys wear the baggy look is that young str8 guys can't stand the thought of some other guy checking out their ass so they wear pants to hide the goods.

BTW: I just had my 30th high school reunion and, going through old photos, we had a good laugh with the 'what were we thinking' clothes. Young men: your day will come when you'll look back and just shake your heads as well.
HEHEHAHAHA!!!! DO you remember "San Francisco riding gear!" Or "Brittania's!!" AARRRGGGHHHH!!!! I wanted those SOOO freakin bad!! Today if I saw them on someone, I'd laugh so hard the tears would be streaming down my face!!!!( Not right in front of them, of coarse..)

I love my 501s and I always buy shrink to fit.

Funny that Britania was brought up. I was just about to mention them. I had a pair that I used to wear when I was much younger and a LOT skinnier. I usually wore them tight and without underwear. I'm now embarassed by how obscene they were.

Most people would say "stylish" is synonymous with "sexy" - and there's nothing sexy about those awful baggy trousers!
Snoozan is correct.

Thats your opinion. But since baggy pants are still being worn by millions of young people, I hardly think your opinion is universal.

using the word "hip" was tongue in cheek. duh.

Urban style hasn't changed much in years, but that is one very specific style of dress that isn't in fashion for most of the people in the US, and definitely not in Europe. If you look around, even at your local mall, you'll see that slim fit, skinny fit, and straight leg jeans are beginning to show up in the mainstream stores. Shirts are being sold in "athletic fit" and "vintage fit," both of which are a tighter fit. When I look around and see the trendsetter types in the university town I live in, the guys are most definitely not wearing cargos and baggy jeans anymore. Mind you, I don't mean the frat boys and/or jock types.

Giant pants, XXXL shirts, and back-turned baseball caps are not what "this generation" is wearing, unless of course you mean the people that are my age that can't get their fashion sense out of 9th grade (mid-90s).

Either that or your pants fall off and your cock falls out of your boxers.

I like to see a man's ass and his thighs. I'm not a big fan or tapered legs, but a slim fit boot cut or truly straight leg look great.

At the age of 30, I hardly think you can speak on what is "hip" or popular. You are clearly out of the loop. A quick look at MTV will reveal that there is NOTHING tight or even remotely 501-ish about the jeans young people are wearing today.'

Turned around baseball caps are out of style? Where do you live? Tokyo?

XXL shirts are out of style??!!

...sure....

Levi jeans are perhaps the most versatile pair of jeans I own. The dark colour and the sizing around the hip and crotch area make them fit just snug, but not so tight that you are looking like a porn star wannabe. I keep a dark pair of levi jeans in the bootcut style tucked away for special occassions like family dinners or gathers or going to somewhere that the dress may be casual but I still want to look ' dressed up'. My more casual attire has jeans more from the FCUK and Wrangler or GSTAR range, which tend to be more tighter and low on the hips than the levi ones.

HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU ALL! But from the Americans i know, they are pretty much out of the loop when it comes to fashion. (no, not all of you - but deffinately some on this forum)

World fashion has DEFFINATELY left baggy pants behind. Sure they had their place in the nineties along with cargos, adidas tracksuits and baseball caps, but sorry guys - this is not the case anymore.

Sure, your hometown may still think such things are cool, but sadly this is because your HOMETOWN has been left behind. And those MTV filmclips are too of a subculture which does not follow the trends of the rest of the world.

For the perfect pair of jeans:
-you want a straight cut, or skinny leg.
if you are a little larger go for a straight leg or bootcut
Beleive it or not, tapered legs are in - but not all can pull it off.
-BLACK IS BACK (or indigo blue is good too)
A pair of good fitting black jeans is the 501s of the 70s.
-you want a hipster fit, but not too lowriding.
-and, yes, it is important these jeans exaggerate your manhood on the front and behind.

Oh DEFFINATELY invest in a european or vintage cut shirt too. XXXL just makes skinny guys look skinnier (swimming in your shirt) and fat people look fatter.

And whats with all the young people bagging out levis? I have 2 pairs, and i love em. Sure theyre not as comfortable as some of the others - but theyre classic! the original jean! where is your american pride? Im 21 and im a huge fan. They had it right from the start, and congrats to them for not selling out and discontinuing this precious line!

cheers

Here's a thought - how about we dress however the fuck we want, fashion be damned, and not try to convince others to invest in ridiculously expensive clothes made in sweatshops by children in foreign countries?

How's that for an idea?

At the age of 30, I hardly think you can speak on what is "hip" or popular.

How old are you, fashion guru? Last time I checked, most of the hot designers and trendmakers out there are my age and older. If you look at the trends emerging from the late-teen and early 20s crowd, you'll see a lot of what I'm talking about anyway. I am far from old, and far from clueless about fashion because of my age. FFS I work with fashion models on a regular basis. You sound like you're 15.

You are clearly out of the loop. A quick look at MTV will reveal that there is NOTHING tight or even remotely 501-ish about the jeans young people are wearing today.'
MTV went out of style in the mid 90s. Of course, I never watched MTV because all it played was the mainstream pop bullshit... oh wait, it still does. Here's some news: MTV stops being cool once you're over 14.

Turned around baseball caps are out of style? Where do you live? Tokyo?

Where do you live, Indiana? Butthole, Missouri? Last time I checked, those were the places that were about 10 years behind the times stylewise. Just like you are.

Hate to break the news to you this way, but regardless of whether or not you think it's "cool," the ONLY reason to wear a baseball cap backward is if you plan to be sucking a cock, or advertising that you want to.

That's a fine idea, actually. Fashion nazis have bugged the hell out of me for decades now. It has always seemed very weak-minded to me, to be so influenced by what others tell you to wear to be cool. I've always said "fuck 'em" and worn what I want, or even going out of my way to AVOID what is the current trend.

Not really - I wear baseball caps backwards all the time because I do a lot of biking and I don't want it to fly off when I'm riding. I got used to wearing it that way, so now even when I'm on foot or whatever, I wear it backwards.

Second that. Though I actually prefer the 'nude' style .... classic, never goes out of style.
