Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. I will really take my time and look over all the these products and talk with my doctor again. And make a educated decision with what I go with. I may need to try a few different products but think I will use accutane as a last resort. As far as my diet goes I try and keep it as Paleo as possible but I do cheat sometimes. Viper73 you never did say what brand of products you were using. Thanks again and if anybody has anything else please do.

Interesting, the "Paleo" diet is still not a scientifically validated diet you know, it may be suitable for some people, it may not be suitable for others. Some of the scientific presumptions behind the theory of that diet are strongly and fairly convincingly disputed by other scientists.

I'm not saying it's an unhealthy diet, and your acne may well have nothing to do with your diet (or at least very little to do with it) but you should perhaps speak to a doctor, and perhaps a specialist in allergies to be sure that your diet isn't reliant on a food or foods which may be contributing to your problem.

Sounds like everyone has had good advice. Accutane came out after I was already out of high school.

For me, a combination of using Dove soap, a mild shaving cream and Clinique facial scrub worked wonders. Mild lotion for a facial moisturizer is also key.

I still get huge swollen pockets of oil under my cheeks. If I notice it early enough, a simple paste of water and baking soda clears up the oil. I only break out the big guns when that pocket of oil gets infected.

Pushing your skin to an extreme (dried out with alcohol or overmoisturized) and hitting it with too much at once destroys your skin and creates more problems.

Anyone got a good solution for blackheads and how to shrink pores?

I no longer have acne, but my skin is quite oily. BY FAR the best cleanser I've ever used is La Roche-Posay Effaclar Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream. Some of you might balk at the cost, but a little bit goes a long way, and a tube can easily last you 4-5 months.

The best moisturizer I've found (and I'll admit it's not cheap) is Cellex-C Sea Silk Oil-Free Moisturizer.

If you go to a dermatologist, you really need to start using tretinoin ("retin-a") and/or TAZORAC®
(for the latter, use the gel, not the cream). It helps most people with acne, and it's invaluable for its anti-aging properties.

And yes, I'm a total homo when it comes to my skin.
