I’m circumcised, and on a superficial level I’ve been curious about what not being circumcised would be like.


Aesthetics aside, I’m not religious. I’ve never been a religious person. I was raised in a small midwestern town, I went through the steps of being a Catholic for my mother’s sake. I have always been upset that my parents had my genitalia mutilated in the name of a religious practice I don’t embrace and was never given a choice on.

I know I’m not the only person who feels this way, and it might be one of the reasons why some men are choosing to have theirs restored.

There has never been a circumcised pope. The New Testament makes plain that physical circumcision is not part of Christianity. Over 90% of the world's Catholics don't circumcise babies. So if you were actually cut for Catholicism, it was out of ignorance. Sorry. You should have had a choice.

Thank you, yes that is something I’ve spoke with my parents about a lot. And the reason I did not have my son circumcised. If he wants to when he’s older, I’ll support him. But I want him to choose.

I get that you’re pissed you didn’t get a choice, but rest assured despite what the foreskin yearners try and tell you, there is no loss of pleasure. If you have a functioning penis, it is ridiculous to call it mutilation and diminishes the reality of actual genital mutilation of women that renders them painful and sometimes non-functioning.

I don't think cut penises are cleaner by any means. Cut guys who make that claim perhaps seem to think they don't need to worry about washing their dick. And I've seen enough cut penises with suture holes, adhesions, and other complications to know that there are plenty of places on a cut member that require attention in the hygiene department.

As far as sensitivity goes, it declines rapidly in middle aged circumcised men but not so much in intact men. The head on the other hand has the lowest density of fine touch sensory cells. Rather, it's in fact more sensitive to heat and cold and vibrations. The inner foreskin on the other hand has the highest density of sensory cells. Often cut men don't realize that most of the stimulation they experience comes from the remnant of the inner foreskin.

The main point aside from the forgoing is that individuals should choose for themselves. So if that's what you want and you chose it, good for you. But please do wash it.

An irreversible intervention with only proxy (parental) consent is ethical IF waiting for the patient's own consent would lead to net harm, and WHEN less-destructive options are exhausted. Genital cutting on healthy children fails this common ethical test decidedly. It's the only thing we let US doctors do that fails.
