Ladybugs secrete a fluid from their joints to give themselves a foul taste
to protect themselves from predators.

Ladybugs protect themselves by emitting a foul-tasting fluid from their leg
joints. This is intended to signal to predators that the insects will not
be appealing to consume. Ladybugs are known for their bright red and dotted
appearance, but their distinctive coloring is also another means of
protecting themselves from predators, who see red hues and dark spots as
indicators of a bitter taste or even poison. If ladybugs are still
threatened, they may fold their legs up and secrete a minimal amount of
blood, a process known as reflex bleeding, to fake being dead in the hopes
of getting predators to move on.

Apparently,

The seahorse is among the only animals on Earth which has males bear the
young.

Seahorses are thought to be the only animal species in which the males bear
their young. The female seahorse deposits her eggs into a pouch located on
the front of the male, where he then internally fertilizes them. The male
then stores the fertilized eggs in his pouch for about two to four weeks
until they hatch and he squeezes them from his pouch. The freshly hatched
baby seahorses then go directly from their father’s pouch to being
released to swimming in the water. Male seahorses generally bear from 100
to 200 babies at a time, but can bear thousands at a time.

Khalil Gibran

Discuss
Gibran was a Lebanese poet and novelist whose works, written in both English and Arabic, fuse elements of Eastern and Western mysticism. His best-known work isThe Prophet, a collection of 26 inspirational prose poems. Published in 1923, it attracted only modest attention during the author's life but later attained cult status among American youth for several generations, including during the 1960s counterculture movement. What lyric did the Beatles adapt from one of Gibran's texts?

i have ALWAYS loved the little colourful geckos, esp the rare ones on island .. beautiful ancient creatures ..

Geckos use tiny hairs on their feet to scale walls.

Geckos climb walls with sticky hairs on their toes known as seta. The hairs
on the small lizards’ toes have a mechanism that can turn the stickiness
factor on and off at will, which allows geckos to first grip and then
quickly scale walls. Geckos use their seta as a means of hiding and running
away from predators. They can travel at approximately 20 body-lengths every
second by scaling surfaces. In addition to giving geckos speed, their
toes’ adhesive system is strong—it is estimated that when geckos hang
upside down, their seta would be able to support 50 times their weight.

Why Do Zebras Have Stripes?

another free public service announcement ha

A recent study suggests one reason that zebras have stripes is to repel
biting flies.

Zebras have stripes as a possible defense mechanism against being bitten by
flies, according to 2014 research from the University of California, Davis.
They found that there was a higher correlation of striped animal species in
areas where biting flies were the most prevalent. However, there is no
evidence to demonstrate the reasoning of why exactly flies would be
deterred by stripes. Zebras will not typically allow humans to be close
enough to observe them in the wild, so scientists have not been able to see
firsthand if flies are actively avoiding the zebras’ stripes. Other
possible theories of why zebras have stripes include camouflage, social
interaction, or to regulate body temperature.

What Amount of Lottery Winnings Goes Unclaimed Each Year?

Apparently,

About $800 million USD in lottery winnings go unclaimed each year.

Around $800 million US Dollars (USD) of lottery winnings goes unclaimed
each year, or around a total of 2% of all winnings, according to 2013
findings. Often winnings are unclaimed in the instance of when
participants’ numbers did not fully match the big jackpot but were
partial matches for lesser prizes. Unclaimed lottery winnings will
typically be returned to the state in which the ticket was purchased. The
first modern lotteries, a form of legalized gambling in which states use
random drawings or other selections to raise revenue, began in 1964 in New
Hampshire, and operate in 37 states.
