Back to the thread, I can speak to both sides of this question from experience given how much I grow. I was picked on for being small long before I had any idea what it meant to be a grower. I did not even like to show off until after I realized that I was at least average in size, but once I did, I started to avoid covering up in locker room type situations. I did not realize that I was hung until much later and that has only increased my desire to show off. Nowadays the towel is over my shoulder.

It seems that older guys are more comfortable tho, just from the old mindset regarding locker rooms. Do they even require jock straps these days?

Reminds me of something that happened recently, and maybe 1/2 dozen times in past. Most recent, was in the locker room at the Wynn spa, not busy with only about 4-5 guys, I only recall seeing one with shorts on. I have been going to the gym everyday before work. I arrive dressed in gym gear. After workout I strip off naked. I go shave at the sinks naked then shower. I am not the only one. It's common practice. Same routine every day.

I do the same thing, then walk naked with towel in hand to the locker room hot tub , then go in the steam room naked and sit on my towel. I love being naked with other men. I think the feeling is mutual with the other men too.

I agree. It's the same at my Y. Guys with modesty issues don't last long there. It's the last gym in the city where I work with open showers and a steam room and hot tub that everyone uses nude. If guys don't like it, they have plenty of other options, yet my Y is always busy. I don't know why other gyms haven't clued into the fact that not every guy wants hyper modesty in the locker room. Some men (myself included) prefer masculine easy going environments.

At my gym, I'm noticing more guys afraid to get naked. When they change from street clothes to workout clothes, many of them will leave their boxers on and put on gym shorts over them. This doesn't offer a guy the support he needs when working out. There are shorts with liners in them, or also sport briefs which are better for your junk. Also, more guys are doing the towel dance when changing. Some of them wrap a towel around them before taking their pants off and putting on shorts, without taking off their boxers. Others just keep the towel on when putting on their underwear after showering. I even see guys showering with their underwear on. I don't know who these guys think they're kidding. They're not that good looking, and no one is going to be cruising them in public.

This has been going on for a while, heh. Much has been written around a redesign in locker rooms to accommodate the children (20 somethings). Perhaps there will be a series of ‘family restroom’ styled jobbers next.

Ppl are hypersensitive about their kids at this point and time. With the catholic garbage in the news daily, and to infinity with their handling, I get it.

Oppositely, if I was the father in this situation, my concern, scientifically, might be that my child might get an erection. I experienced this myself at geez; 9, 10, 13? This varies quite a bit as I understand.

I later found out that such thoughts are quite common among guys and girls of his age, thats what he told me. He said that younger guys have an issue with nudity / exposed parts of the body. You will always get the towel dancer in any locker room. Personally I do not see what all the fuss is about. We all have a body, some of us are thin, some are chunky, some are fat, some are smooth, some are hairy, some are hung, some are not so hung - so what? The locker room is to get changed in, go workout or play, then strip off, get washed, dry, get dressed, leave.

I have never given two hoots when in a locker room, I just get on with what I am doing.

It just doesnt make sense how modesty has "transformed" the minds of people today, regarding nudity within a designated area. But i guess it has to do with the fact that some guys pay too much attention on their appearance and dick size, just because some asshole next to them doesnt know how to behave around naked guys. Lets say someone is a bit more sensitive than his friends, and he gets a harsh comment about his body, this may cause some kind of trauma. So next time, he will play safe and wrap a towel to avoid such comments, for sure....

What I lament about the disappearance of open showers is the camaraderie. I just got back from an hour of swimming with a masters group. We worked out hard and chatted in the pool afterwards. Because the club has individual shower stalls, the group energy just vanishes after the workout. I was thinking about a century I rode and how great it was to clean up in open showers afterwards when we could all moan about soreness and the brief thunderstorm that struck mid-ride.

I'm always too wiped out to care much about my dick or anyone else's after an intense workout, but I do miss the banter that goes with open showers.

I'm not one of the younger guys, but I do see this often in the gym I go to. There is always naked guys walking around at the sinks, or going into the steam room. Most of the guys I know don't seem to be scared about there bodies. I have come across guys and younger guys as well that have no problem showing what they have been blessed with. Even seen a few with semi's and a with a full erection and nobody said anything. I myself enjoy coming out of the shower naked and having my towel by my locker..I have nothing to be shy about..it might not be as big as the other guys..but at my age..I really don't mind. I only began making an effort to maintain my physical condition at the YMCA about a year ago. This particular YMCA is laid out vastly different than I recall from years ago. There are actually 4 different locker rooms for "men": 1- family locker room for men with young children 2- under age 18 next to 3- older male locker room which shares a common shower area that has partitions without doors or curtains, and 4- "male health center" which has open showers, a steam room, and the sauna.

Ultimately, viewing naked bodies in the locker room becomes dependent on time of day … I observe "towel modesty" more frequently than I believe makes any sense. I've observed the same guys walking completely bare with their towels slung over their shoulder one day, and performing a "towel dance" the next day. Their age has no bearing on "comfort level of becoming bare" around others. There are still many guys that perform clothing changes so rapidly, one wonders whether they are still in the underwear they put on a month ago.
