Sorry for my ignorance but I recently moved to the western world (North america in particular) so experiencing new things so just curious. I was raised in communal shower system in schools, so being naked (fully or partially) around male friends was never any issue for me or anyone around me. But here, I have observed that while in the gym locker room or even at the beach showers, I get so many strange looks from some people (especially Caucasian) because I am in briefs - normal briefs, not sheer or anything (i am never fully nude otherwise they may kick me out lol). On the other hand, I have some Caucasian female friends who are very comfortable changing around me and they mostly are in bikinis on the beach which is comparatively much smaller than male boardshorts (or even speedos for that matter) so want to understand are Caucasian men more shy than Caucasian women? I have generally experienced in non western countries women are more shy than men when it comes to nudity or showing skin, so thought I will ask.. again sorry for limited knowledge here.

I can't answer for all Caucasian men, but as an American living in Australia, most US men, despite their race, are not that shy about nudity. Most of us have played sports, showered/changed clothes in from of classmates or others. However most American men, despite their race, do not wear a Speedo, even if the are physically well built. For some stupid reason, wearing a Speedo or now wearing a jockstrap are considered "gay" by some.

As @MusclePerth notes, guys in North America don’t normally wear briefs at the beach. Briefs are either considered too gay, or too revealing, or both. Women don’t seem to have the same hangups with wearing skimpy swimwear. The exception is men will wear briefs if they’re swimming laps in a pool, or if they’re gay guys amongst their peers.
I wasn’t sure if you were also asking about showering in underwear. I’ve seen some guys at the gym shower in their underwear from time to time, and I’d say that’s considered odd here. I chalk it up to it being a custom in other places. Here, if a guy is modest, he’s more likely to skip the shower all together rather than shower in underwear.
