In 2015, Nory recorded and posted a "joke" where he compared a black colleague, Angelo Assumpção, to a trash bag. He got suspended for a month and has apologized.

Angelo's contract wasn't renewed by their club and he hasn't competed since, no other club will take him. Some people think he's getting punished for speaking out against racism.

The thing is, there are reports saying this Angelo person is just not that great of an athlete, bailed on his training and had a habit of clashing with his peers and coaches. The idiotic "jokes" went both ways, he's apparently very homophobic and has a history of bullying children.

Basically my understanding is that whilst Nory apologised and tried to be friends with Angelo, Angelo continued with the homophobic remarks, and with the guy that wrote the tweets, he is saying that Angelo also teased him all the time, calling him a girly name and refusing to call him by his proper name.. so it looks like Nory was the better man throughout and Angelo is someone that even though he is no longer competing still blames everyone else apart from himself.

Nory's sexuality isn't getting much attention in this case. I don't think he's out per se, there were rumors a few years ago that he was dating an openly gay model (or whatever he is), but it wasn't confirmed. And in the leaked video, Nory is molesting himself while watching a woman? But, you know, just watch him speak, his mannerisms and the videos he posts, assuming he's queer wouldn't be much of a stretch.

Do keep in mind, though, that he's part of a military program and he is (or was, I'm not sure) funded by the Brazilian Air Force, so maybe being out is not much of an option.

Other athletes have come forward to bash Angelo's behavior, so yes, it does seem he likes playing the victim. It doesn't excuse Nory's behavior, obviously, but Angelo's current situation is no one's fault but his own. Daiane dos Santos, one of the best known Brazilian gymnasts, said she knows what happened behind the scenes in this case and isn't defending either. And she's also black, so take that as you will.
