It was a long time since I counted on the avatar to carry the likeness of the writer of an entry - I have it clear in my head that avatars can be anyone or anything. Still, it is confusing to a simple soul like myself to read an entry from an at first assumed female, that upon checking the profilia proves to be a male with a female avatar (and, I suppose, vice versa). While it is, of course, not against any rules to use a transgendered avatar, one wonders why it is done. I ask this with some trepidation, because on a site like this one, which is not at all sexual but purely intellectual, the writer's gender is completely unimportant to the reader, but still I feel emotionally betrayed by these avatars. I don't know exactly why: maybe I feel that the same opinion, expressed by a female, could mean something different than from a man. Anyone else with the same primitive reactions as mine?

Hi Gym!

I found it somewhat confusing in the
beginning also but their reasoning is
they want to look at a female pic
when they are reading on they board.

I really think men should post masculine
avis...much better for we females on
the board.

I confess to having thought, during my first couple of days on the site, that Matthew was a black drag queen when he used to have his Aretha avatar up.

He's not? I'm crushed!

In my heart I am ... doesn't that count for something???

Interesting topic, because I wonder if people respond to me differently with a "masculine" vs. "feminine" avatar.

(Which only makes me want to keep yanking the chain.)

I like my tiger. I think he's a he; males have a ruff around the back of their head. If he's not, then I apolgize for misleading you Gym.

well, i really am frederick douglas.

matthew has a point, i wonder how many people resond differently to others depending upon their avatar selection

Oh for the days when all the men had their cock shots as their avatars. Sigh.

I too apologize for any confusion my avatar may cause. I picked it because I like it. That's all. At the same time though, my stats below the av. say i'm male, as my gallery more or less shows as well, if someone wants to take it that far. But I understand.
