My job would fire me. I've looked at other drugs like nitrous...

In all reality using a substance to fill an emotional void is potentially problematic .

I've lost several close friends to alcohol and other drugs. They were doing what you're doing.

Booze isn't going to cure loneliness. In fact, it often just exacerbates the problem.

Yeah you are correct. It's also might be filling in issues with sexuality and sexual problems.

p.s. i love booze sometimes. in small quantities when away from home (i do love me a good brewery tasting on a balmy saturday afternoon). occasionally i party like it's 1999 at home and usually after that happens, i do a dry out period for a while because it's too easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole and find myself drinking a bottle of wine every night. i especially find this to be true this year, which has been particularly awful. i hate using booze as a crutch so i am actively working hard to catch myself anytime i find this happening. currently, i am off the sauce until a holiday trip i have planned in a few weeks.

p.s. # 2 i agree with TNJ that green is better overall (save for legality here). i find it kinda harsh to smoke though so i use little one hitters or vaporizer pens. i get lazy and do not clean them very often, hence i have a drawer full of old dirty glass wands.

@Thr3Dk1LL3r: Here's a suggestion that works for me when I'm feeling kinda ughish...

You're not far (about 44 miles/an hour or less driving due East) from the beach in Ocean City, MD living in Salisbury, MD. I know from a good friend that lived in Salisbury that buses run regularly back and forth too if you can't/don't want to drive. Even a bus ride with some new scenery can be cathartic.

I find that time spent on the beach or a bench just staring at the ocean can do wonders for my mood. Especially at this time of year. Or simply strolling the boardwalk. Taking in the sights, the smell, the sounds. Not to mention Thrasher's french fries, funnel cakes, caramel corn, salt water taffy...nom nom.

I've been known to hop in my car and drive 130 miles (one way) and back in the same day just for some ocean/beach time reflection. Along with some good tunes, it never failed to improve my mood/outlook.

I do hope you find something that can help you overcome whatever challenges you are currently facing. But as @Tight_N_Juicy said, using a substance to fill an emotional void is potentially problematic.

Happiness/contentment comes from within. From you. I've yet to meet the person who's gotten "better" from abusing any substance. Certainly not in the long term.

Regardless, I wish you well. Get out there and go live. Life's too short not to be happy! Best wishes to you.

I’ve missed you. I can tell you’re feeling awful and depressed. Alcohol won’t fix it, it will only make it worse. It’s a depressant, sweetie. You need help. Please get it. You are so worth it. I know you're in so much pain, but you can do this. I believe in you. *hugs*

And dude, stay away from inhalants. That shit’ll get in your brain and kill you before you know what’s happening.

I had two close family members who self-medicated with booze. It killed one of them and damaged the other’s relationships with everyone she was close to.

I just saw an article about how playing Tetris can be used as therapeutic help for people with anxiety and depression because they can get into a mental zone and escape themselves for a while.

I missed you too hunnie. The biggest issues lately is my mood stabilizer got drastically dropped in amount and some more serious health scares. there's not a replacement for it. I know excuses are what no one wants to hear. But it's just the case.

I use Motherwort ( Leonurus cardiac ) tincture.

Legal.
Non-habit forming.
Made by a plant and not in a plant.
I'm not allergic to it.
I metabolise it slower so it last longer than other over the counter and prescribed meds.

This is what works for me and I have no idea if it'd be effective for you.

You can buy standardised tincture on-line from reputable suppliers but Motherwort is VERY easy to grow
and tinctures are very easy to make.

Buying a standardised tincture will should get you through until the spring growing season.

It's very bitter so I lightly coat the top of my tongue in honey and then place the drops under my tongue
and then work it around my mouth together.
I don't wash it down with water which I feel dilutes the effect.
