The one thing that stands out for me in memory is Malcolm McDowell and Peter O'Toole (Caligula and Tiberius) are carrying on a conversation as they are walking casually through an orgy, and Peter O'Tool, in his usual overly theatrical manner screams to the orgyers..."More Conviction!!!!!" :eek:

I Love "Rome" as well. At work whenever it's on we have a buffet night and everyone from different departments come in and we watch it and hope that no calls come in.

You got he characters correct, but I think they're switched. Servilia sent the slave to Atia. If you'll remember, the slave was standing in the room as Atia was talking to her personal slave wondering what Servilia was up to by sending him to her. While she was discussing this, Octavia walked into the room and saw him, and caught her breath, and asked what he was doing there.

I had heard about the big orgy scene from Caligula, so a few months ago, I went to my local Blockbuster and rented it.

What a disappointment! There was no explicit, X-rated sex in this version at all! Some nudity, yes--but no hard-ons or cum-shots anywhere!!

Are there two different versions--the "red" one and "blue" one??

Please tell me: where can I get the version with all the "good" stuff??

When Caligula was released on home video back in the 90's two versions were put out. One with a red background box cover and one with a blue background box cover. The blue version was the one that was "unedited" and showed some pretty hardcore sex scenes in it, including a gay blowjob scene. The red was the edited version that attempted to be a more "legitimate" Hollywood film. Don't get too excited about the unedited blue version because some scenes are actually very short so you only get a glimpse of some of the action but it is undoubtedly there. Penthouse Home Video recently re-released a 3-disc 30th Anniversary collectors edition DVD that has the restored unedited version that is even more explicit than the "blue" version. I've actually seen it at Best Buy here in town but I'd already purchased one at a local adult video store. I actually like the movie alot. Malcolm McDowell does have a nude scene but's not really worth writing home about. The really cool sex scenes are the orgy scenes. It's weird to think that McDowell, O'Toole, and Mirren were in this movie because it really is a porno. I mean, Bob Guccione is the one who financed it so obviously he intended it to be more adult oriented than Gore Vidal did. There's some cool historical documentation that comes in the liner booklet with the new DVD. Lot's of controversy and lots of bad blood between the certain people involved with this film.

yeah i think this is a good film. Sometimes i can't help but wonder if the hardcore sex scenes ruined the film. You could tell that was added on later. I don't blame for the people involved to have bad blood between them. I mean it's like they the actors/Director were told one thing at the beginning and then suddenly VIOLA you're in a porno film!@
