Chatroom?

How many members actually use the chatroom feature on the site?

  • I do

    Votes: 47 79.7%
  • I dont.

    Votes: 12 20.3%

  • Total voters
    59
  • Poll closed .
I can't get it to work but not sure if that is a problem with my browser?

In its old format it was OK but I have used better designed chat rooms.

I prefer Yahoo or MSN for chatting.

i do go to the chat room, but, not much. rather chat thru yahoo or pm. i just don't have the attention span for the chat room. plus, when i have gone in, i will say hello......don't get answers. so, for the most part why bother.

altho, i like reading and posting in threads, p.m.' and chat on yahoo.

I don't. I've given a few tries over my time here, but I just don't find it very user friendly or convenient. I'm also not a fan of Chat-politics.

This comment bothers me, especially coming from a moderator.

What kind of politics do you perceive there to be?
Is this why there are no mods regularly in chat?
Is this why no chat people are ever invited to become mods?
Is this why multiple requests to have chat mods go ignored?

Thanks.

interesting questions Patch

I've seen a couple of mods from time to time, but really Acontium and flameboy are the only two I see on what i would consider a fairly regular basis.

Why does my personal opinion about one of the facilities of the site bother you?

There's a politics in almost every group situation, it's human nature, the dynamic of the particular variety of it in chat doesn't suit me.

Other forms of politics elsewhere in the site are more suited to me.

To your last three questions the answers are -

  • No
  • No (and nor is that an accurate characterisation on your part)
  • No (as above)

My personal opinions are not the opinions of the entire team, nor would it make any sense to read them as some kind of Moderating Team policy or culture.

Because you're a moderator, and moderators choose other moderators. If you don't chat, then you don't know a percentage of the regular contributors to the site, and you are less likely to nominate a chatter to moderate. Also you are less likely to care about the issues that are raised regarding the chat.

Currently, only Aconitum chats and even then her presence is sporadic. She cares but she's only one person. Rob seems to give a shit as he keeps updating the chat platform, which I always welcome, but beyond that the concerns raised always seem to fall on deaf ears.

I've been chatting here for 5 years now and the moderators in chat issue is a persistent issue. Sure we've had JamieFord and flame boy but they're no longer moderators nor have they been for quite a while. If the mods don't come into chat and get to know people, how will a chatter become a moderator?

I don't recognise your characterisations and I don't think your presumptions are accurate.

I visit chat from time to time. I can't call myself a regular - I never feel completely welcome. The people are lovely, but I still feel odd without a camera. It doesn't seem fair that I get to view a camera and they get nothing in return. As a result, I don't even attempt to view cams anymore (unless invited) and lose track of conversations that are happening verbally. I'm definitely more active in the forum.
Aww, nooo! :frown1:
Come back MoT - you're always welcome there, dude.

Chat room user and proud
Ro for chat mod! Altho he may actually be too busy, I guess?

Occasionally.

Honestly, most of it is people whacking off on cam, other dudes saying "you're huge!!!" to those people and inside conversations between people who've been frequenting it for years and are good friends.

If I go there and try to chat, I usually recognize two or three people (which is great) but typically most attempts at any type of meaningful conversation fall flat in the face of "look at how huge so-and-so's donger is!!!!" or "why are you trying to talk about that (movie, tv show, news item, etc) here?!?!"

It's cool that some people love it and have personal relationships over it. But it's fairly insular, it doesn't feel friendly, and unless you're waving around a huge wiener or have a set of tits on you, good luck.

I have tapered my visits. When I first registered, I was on ...almost day and night (retired -- no children, grandchildren, and husband) -- but I have limited myself to just reading the messages. Sometimes, I will accept a conversation, but most of the time, I will decline them because I am chatting with one or two people. Anyway, it is a great forum.

I agree with many of your comments. Its hard to break beyond the "____ has a big dick" chatter. Horny boys rarely make good conversationalists. The women in the room are sometimes buried under flirting or pestering from said horny boys. If you can look beyond the horny boys, the small penis humiliation, and the attention whores...sometimes you can connect with someone and have an interesting conversation. I know I have...and that's what keeps me going back. When its good, its great. I can certainly understand if some people don't have the time or patience to put into it.
