What other words can "cologne" be used for by the way, excluding aftershave?
Aftershave is, well, for applying to your face after a shave, and is almost always a splash or a lotion. Its primary function is to calm down the skin after scraping off the hair; the nice smell is a perk.

Cologne can be a spray (my preference) or a splash and is intended for places other than your freshly shaven face; in fact it might be a wee tad ouchy if applied there. Its primary function is to smell good.

My mostest favoritest cologne ever is/was something named Cruzan, as in St Croix.

It was available in the mid 1980s and early 1990s at JCPenney of all places. Sadly it's no more. It was an intoxicating melange of woodsy notes, vanilla, rum, and voodoo apparently.

Late wife nicknamed it Panty Repellent, as in one whiff and she was on me like a dog on a soup bone.

These are my " go to's " , right now , but of course ' our preferences will differ . A piece of advice though , " less is more " in regard to application , in fact , sometimes , even none is good . I'm just remembering an encounter with a lady who was known to me , remarking that i smelled good , to which i replied , " you must be kidding " . " I've been working my ring out all day in the sun , and smell like a polecat " . She looked at me , smiled , and said " man smell " . I walked away , delighted . So , good quality , a smell that you liked , and use less ,rather than more . Good luck .drakkar-essence-mens-fragrance-1-oz.jpg

Not sure where to post this,

But I am on the hunt for a new cologne...

Any recommendations or tips would be useful ;)
How much are you willing to spend? My favourite is neroli portofino by Tom ford. It’s about £200 for a small bottle.

But I have lots of more affordable options: ‘him’ by emporio Armani, armani diamonds, ‘le male’ by jean Paul Gaultier, Dior platinum, fuel for life by diesel.

Name just a few

in my last relationship- i wore a cologne that my lady bought for me that she liked- until we ran out and she found out what I smelled like without it.
let's just say she was WAY more responsive to the way I smelled naturally...

And so I stopped wearing it.

Oh- and all aftershave is is alcohol with a fragrance-.
Its NOT to 'calm your skin down" after a shave- it does Two things... its to kill any bacteria on the skin you just scraped with a razor so that you won't get an infection or rash... but MOSTLY its supposed to evaporate- which cools the skin and causes it to contract, so that the freshly cut of end of the beard hair pokes out proud of the pore its growing out of.
The reason you want this is because it significantly reduces the chances of an ingrown hair creating something akin to a pimple on your face.

I get the most compliments with either Creed Aventus, Acqua di Gio Profumo, or Jo Malone 154. Dior Savauge is nice but it seems - at least on me - folks either love it or absolutely hate it... there doesn't seem to be any middle ground.
Relieved with your post! Love Jo Malone... but I tend to prefer Baraonda from Nasomatto and Tuscan Leather from Tom Ford!
