Comfort food. It's something ubiquitus. Every culture has a form of Comfort food thatis predominant when people are feelling sad. It could be ice cream when you go through a break up, Pasta when you feel low, etc.

I'm just curious Do you have comfort food, and if so, what is it?

Me personally, Yah,I have comfort food

Among them, are "Pesto" Not true Itallian pesto, but a bastardized, americanized version where instead of all the fresh ingredients, It's a simple spaghetti pasta, with olive oil, basil, and shredded parmasan cheese. Add in Chicken chuncks, it's a meal.

Spaghetti Aglio y olio is similar, sauteed garlic and olive oil, with a dash of red pepper is good

Pasta aside, I usually do stuff with eggs and breakfast food. I love eggs I love sausageIlive hash brown poatatoes,so a breakfast skillet is ideal for me......No matter what the time of day.

Anyone else have unique comfort foods to share?

I made a peach cobbler yesterday and served it with homemade vanilla ice cream. (it was very comforting)

Otherwise I have meatloaf (I make it with a yorkshire pudding top) and serve it with brown gravy and au gratin potatoes.

A baked potato with butter, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese and fresh crumbled bacon on top.

There is also something very comforting about going out to an old fashioned ice cream parlor and having a banana split.

Cottage cheese and noodles a very simple dish. Lightly boiled noodles, butter, add the cottage cheese when the noodles have cooled slightly so it does not melt, season with salt and pepper.

An extra thick chocolate malt from the Big Dipper back home. Just talking about this last night with someone.

and any sort of baked sweet. Cookies, brownies, cake, etc.
You'd be "comfortable" as a bitch around me. For a while, I couldn't make anything good for you. Just lots of baked sweet crap. I'm starting to try different Asian foods and stuff now though, but still doing a lot of pastries and cookies.

Crunch

Currently delicate smatterings of Manchego cheese.

Otherwise... Rocket. Avocado. Scrambled eggs. Medjool dates. Lychees. Pomegranate. Golden syrup. Good coffee. Earl Grey. Gin & tonic or a good ale.

If wistful, tomatoes make me think of an ex (in a good way).

Gadzooks! That's quite a list...

ETA: my mother's lasagne; creme brûlée.

How do you do the yorkshire pudding top? Recipe, please?

Comfort food is pasta shells with butter and salt & pepper. When I was little, I hated any sauce, so it reminds me of being a little girl.

However, I also find it comforting to cook. Something with lots of dicing, sauteing and good smells. Just slipping into the zone. I love being able to feed people and getting positive feedback.

Dishes & cleanup - not so comforting.

A Yorkshire pudding top just seems wrong... In my head, stuff should only be put inside afterwards, except for toad-in-the-hole.

I don't know, think about it.... a lovely golden brown yorkshire pudding top covering a meatloaf....a lovely brown gravy.... I think it sounds like it could be quite delicious. It's not like the meatloaf is inside the pudding, like a Wellington.

Btw, toad in the hole....another comfort food!

Yummy. Don't forget the bacon cheeseburger with crispy dill pickles.

My comfort food is anything my mom makes. She's a "basics" type of cook and hasn't changed her recipes at all. Traditional.

This is very close to my Hawaiian Teriyaki Meat Loaf but totally different...
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef (I grind my own to avoid pink slime)
1/4 pound ground veal (same as above)
1/4 pound ground pork
1 1/2 cups panko bread crumbs
8 oz mushroom finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 eggs
1/4 cup half and half or whole milk
1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
1 TBL minced garlic
1 tsp sriracha hot sauce
Salt & Pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients and press into a loaf pan. (make sure there is at least two inches of space to pour in the yorkshire pudding batter later) Bake for 25 minutes.

While the meat loaf is cooking make the yorkshire pudding batter (All ingredients should be room temperature or it won't work)
1 cup minus 1 TBL all purpose flour (sifted)
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup milk
Whisk together until smooth

After the meatloaf has cooked for 25 minutes remove from the oven and pour the yorkshire pudding batter over the top and increase the oven temperature to 375 degrees and cook for another 25 minutes or until the yorkshire pudding is puffy and golden brown.
Remove from oven and cover with aluminum foil for 10 minutes and then cut and serve with brown gravy.

This thread got me to thinking about a few of my other favorite things I'm making a sweet potato casserole tonight. I'll post the recipe later.

Peanut butter milkshakes, pho (rare beef cooking in the broth omg), curry udon soup, mashed potatoes and gravy, home-made bread, Kraft Dinner/Kraft Mac and Cheese (I know it's fucking horrible but I like it anyway), steamed rice + kimchi, the casserole dishes my mom made when I was growing up (which I now will never get again. Ugh)

I'm sure it tastes very nice, but it just unsettles me...
