What makes someone think a younger woman as cute instead of pretty, sexy, hot, etc.? Is it a mixed compliment/insult?

No, it isn't a mixed compliment/insult, it's just a plain old compliment.

Cute's cute. It's different from sexy, but cute person can be sexy. A cute person can also be hot. A lot of it depends on style and what the girl's wearing. I find when a girl looks or makes herself up to look young and innocent, that's "cute", while more adult and aggressive is "sexy".

I quite literally just slapped my own forehead, by the way.

PS, you're gorgeous.

I think it's just a compliment, not an insult at all. I hear cute and sexy myself, and I always find it to be a compliment. Being called cute doesn't make me feel young, it makes me feel like I have an innocent look. I don't mind that at all.

You are cute, sexy and gorgeous btw.

i could turn this around & ask what does cute mean when describing guys? i don't think it means innocent or confused.

I always thought cute was just another general term for expressing attraction - either as a direct comment or an indirect comment. I think it's actual meaning will vary widely depending on who is saying it.

Course where I'm from it can also mean sharp, cunning, wily, clever even.

If an Irishman tells you you're a 'cute whore' he doesn't mean he thinks you're an attractive prostitute, he just means you're a sharp opperator. It's a compliment - honest (men can also be 'cute whores'). Sorry - I'm rambling now - it's late, this is mostly Java talking )
