My apologies, didn't realise was half asleep when posted that.
Definitely, don't go gorging on fruit and expecting to see the weight drop off, its obviously redundant to eat 400kcals of fruit vs 150kcal cookie, it's just chances are you are going to eat more calories if you eat calorie dense foods.

Either way, good luck with it Gelfingfay.

Oh I get that. The same could be said for all foods. I am just saying that if you had to pick one, fruit is the way to go. I don't over do it on fruit.
Just trying to cut back on those sugar rich foods. Naturally sweet foods are not the problem, those are easier to monitor because they are more filling. Added sugars are.
I defiantly appreciate your vigour and enthusiasm that you have about food and healthy. You are amazing and have a knowledge a passion that drives you and I do appreciate it more than you could possibly know!:)
I just want to cut back on arguements and encourage the sharing of various approaches and experiences.:D

One thing that has helped me also is too go cold turkey on giving up soda, candy, and that kind of BS. Now, the biggest sugar craving I have is with adding it to coffee in the mornings. I've been slowly, very slowly, reducing the amounts that I add to coffee and am noticing that my taste buds are adjusting and not craving it as much and getting used to the lighter amount.

It really would be easier if I could just pull it back in the coffee. I like your very gradual decrease approach. I might need to do that one. I cannot stand black coffee and drinking green tea doesn't do it for me.

It's like trying to form a new habit that catches on eventually

Have you tried xylitol in your coffee?
It's the only natural sweetener that I can tolerate. Stevia and monk fruit are just nasty to me but I can do xylitol... a little.
Also, when I cut sugar out of my coffee I found that putting a sprinkle of cinnamon and a little vanilla extract helped.

I feel the same you do about those other sweeteners. I will look up the other stuff. And I like the cinnamon.I will totally do it but I might need to find something other than extracts. I just taste the alcohol. I will keep my eyes open. Thanks!

You do get fat by eating a surplus of calories, and fats are typically the most calorie-dense foods.
If you are in a caloric surplus excess calories from fat, carbs, and even protein are all going to be stored as fat.

My point is that anyone looking to lose weight needs to focus on the simple calories in/out equation before they start worrying about anything else. I often come across overweight people who are super knowledgeable about alternative fats/sugars/grains and where their produce comes from and whether or not its GMO/free trade/organic/gluten free/free range/grass fed/soy free/unprocessed/etc yet they have no clue how many calories it contains or how many they should be eating a day.

This isn't entirely true. Excess calories from protein rarely store as fat, they are either converted to glucose in the absence of dietary carbohydrate or it is urinated out. Excess calories from carbohydrate are generally burned off as heat but in specific dietary settings will be converted to and stored as body fat, this is known as gluconeogenesis. Excess calories from fat are almost entirely stored as body fat, though I've seen some scientific data that shows saturated fat stores far more readily compared to mono/polyunsaturated fats.

There is so much misunderstanding about food and nutrition today, and you nailed it regarding sugar. But for fats, not so much. Lard is in fact a healthy fat, just like olive oil and coconut oil. Contrary to what people think, you don't get fat by eating fat. Your body loves to use fat for energy. Unhealthy fats are man-made horrors: canola, hydrogenated vegetable oil (shortening), corn oil and some others are terrible for you. People who live a low carb lifestyle freely eat fats like lard and heavy cream without worry.

Please learn about actual nutritional science and physiology before giving nonsense advice like this which could lead to increased risk of developing heart disease, having a stroke, developing diabetes, cancer etc.

try to move from high GI foods to things with a slower release and from sugar intense fruits to more watery fruits.

I love pears (juice with black pepper for maximum effect) then things like watermelon, jackfruit and even Durian (if you can stand the smell)

Other than that it's easiest to think farm over factory and avoid most stuff that comes from a pack... best of luck with it, let us know how it goes

Never thought I'd share this publicly but here goes~ In march I was hospitalized for complications due to morbid obesity. I was finished with requirements to have weight loss stomach "sleeve" surgery. However, my A1C level was 11.5 and needed to be lowered to 9.0 or less. no easy task. and you can only be tested every 3 months. They told me the only way to do it was to give up sugar completely. also white bread, white pasta, white rice, white flour; etc. prepared food~ nothing with more than 3 grams of sugar or if sugar is listed in the first 3 ingredients. after several failed attempts. sometimes I'd go a few days, sometimes only a few hours. but finally I got a whole week, then 2, a month. after 2 months I could go to the grocery store with no problem at all. I was 385 pounds. now I'm 329. my A1C is just 9.01 and coincidentally I start rehabilitation 3 days a week starting tomorrow. Imagine what I could loose once I start exercising! :) WW-Infographics-Sugar-Hori.jpg

First off if you are hear to preach please leave this page, however advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
So I really just need some solid advice to help cut back on sugar consumption.
With the fall/winter holidays' coming up it is getting harder and harder to avoid it. So what do you do to dodge it? How did you transition off or to less? Etc.

I am not hear to preach but I took sugar out of my life and replaced it with stevia 4 months ago and have lost 42 lbs. I cannot explain how much better I feel. I do not snack. Eat three meals a day. What it has done to my blood chemistry is short of amazing. I just read labels if it contains sugar or a man made substitute I leave it on the shelf at grocery. Determination I think is the answer. Sugar will kill your health!
