I don't like the ones that have a single point of research to divulge as "the final explanation of...", which they rarely are and that are strung out over an hour, when five minutes would have done, with recaps for the retarded after each commercial break.

I'm also quite a fan of documentaries, with a preference for science, nature, history, and music-themed ones.

I have difficulty getting into those as well. If it's not a final explanation, they shouldn't advertise it as such.

A few more I found to be very interesting: Catfish (which has been the subject of some controversy), The Chances Of The World Changing, Gender Rebel, When You're Strange, Roman Polanski: Wanted And Desired, The King Of Kong, Rivers And Tides, Small Town Gay Bar

I saw Gender Rebel, Bi_mmf. It was really interesting, a great example of lives being improved by gender surgery. I commend the bravery of those women, they live fuller lives because of it.

I am on the fence about whether I want to watch the Roman Polanski one. I have an intense dislike for the man and refuse to watch any film of his. I know this documentary is about him, but he makes my blood boil. The rest of your suggestions will go on my list otherwise.

I'm a big music lover, so most (but not all) of the ones I watch are related to music. My favourite series are "Long Way To The Top" (the history of Australian rock and roll) and "Love Is In The Air" (the history of Australian pop music).

I also love those 'fly-on-the-wall' type films like "In Bed With Madonna" (aka "Truth Or Dare") and programs that show vintage TV performances of singers/bands.

I'm not 'obsessed' with celebrity but I like documentaries of CLASSIC stars. I emphasised CLASSIC because I'm not talking about Justin Beiber or Miley Cyrus - I don't want to see documentaries of those little shits. I'm talking about people like Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley - I love to see rare photographs or film of them.

We have similar taste in entertainment documentaries. I also love the stories of entertainers with interesting stories that have made an impact on society. I loved the series VH1 Legends, I wish they would air repeats. I recently watched an interview with Patti Smith, who is one of the most badass, amazing individuals that ever graced music. I could watch that interview on repeat, but couldn't listen to a Miley or Bieber in completion just once. Okay, Imma slow my roll before this turns into a rant against modern pop.

Speaking of VH1, I really enjoyed the VH1 'Bands Reunited' series. 'A Flock of Seagulls' was a highlight for me.

The Bridge, Food Inc., The Business of Being Born, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Super High Me, The Cove, Dark Days, Good Hair, Capturing the Friedmans, Man on Wire, Jesus Camp, Outfoxed, The Aristocrats, and Helvetica.

I am a total documentary nerd and like BBW36 I have no particular preference on subject matter. I have seen most of the ones listed here (Food, Inc. was the most recent for me) and like EmJay I enjoy the True Life series on MTV. I'll watch pretty much anything subject matter gangs, farmers, business it is all fascinating to me.

I've never seen it! I just googled it and read about it, it's another program going on my list. Thanks for throwing that out there, how did I miss this??

You're welcome. Some great bands appear on it. Sometimes they refuse to reunite, but it's still fascinating to get a behind-the-scenes look at the relationships between the various band members and what they are doing now.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I don't get NatGeo but I wish I did because I love the documentaries they have on Netflix. I'm definitely beefing up my queue tonight.

One documentary I couldn't finish watching was Jesus Camp. I became way too upset when that woman made those kids cry. I don't think I ever came so close to throwing a tv out the window than that moment.

As far as recommendations for great documentaries, you should give PBS' Frontline a go. They cover a wide variety of subjects and are always very informative. You can even watch full episodes online, which is a big plus.

Mr.Snakey, will you let me know what you think of that documentary? I can only imagine the strong reactions that fans have had to this.

Edit: I also recommend Independent Lens, as it always offers something unexpected, yet interesting.
I watched it two times. I have too be honest. I laughed at it as if it were a comedy. A very bad comedy. I could take up this thread with fact after fact of false information. Remember, we live in a age where anybody can say anything and publish it as fact. Here are a few things they say are true. That aren't.

1 - Paul died in a car crash in 1966 after picking up a girl named Rita.
2- The MI5 told the Beatles the death must be kept secret for fear of many suicides.
3 - a double was found.
4 - Rita- After saying she would tell the press the truth was hit by a motorcycle losing one of her legs. She is given a new identity and now becomes Heather Mills. Pauls future wife.
5- John Lennon is murdered after saying he will tell the truth that Paul is dead.
6 - A man breaks into Georges house and stabs him. Thats true. However, i don't think it was the MI5. Just a crazed nut. Not buying a word of it. Thanx for the link........

As someone who didn't know anything about PID conspiracy theory it was pretty amazing to watch. After considering what I saw, I also think it's a bunch of crap. First off, this photo was definitely taken after 1966 and there are clearly 2 legs present. Also, Heather Mills was born in 1968 so she wasn't even a fetus at the time of Paul's "death". There were also a lot of other stuff that could be explained very logically so I consider it an elaborate story with a hell of a lot of spin. I still found it to be entertaining, I'll give them that. I think I was actually more amazed by the amount of websites dedicated to proving this conspiracy. It's absolutely nuts!
