I could use the small amount of extra revenue this would generate. There are a few places in Manhattan not too far from me, I was hoping to become a donor at a couple of places and just make my rounds for the week  Does anyone here donate sperm? If so, any thoughts or stories you'd like to share with me? I have an interview this week and I'll have to give my first sample to even see if my sperm is up to standards. They say you should be abstinent for 2-3 days before giving a sample, I'm a little curious if my count will be ok following their recommendation, and if it is I wonder if I could get by leaving less time...allowing me to donate more at more locations. So does anyone have experience in this area?

Dude, I am all for making cash and if you can get away with selling your oats at more than one market at a time, cash in on it! ... having said that, I considered doing it as well a while ago but, I couldnt live not knowing whether I have fathered a child or not. Could you?

If you are going to do it just for the money... Not a good idea.
You have to know that people who can't get kids from each other use donorsperm to get kids. For them it is a big deal. For example if I have to make the decision with my wife later to get donorsperm, I want someone who knows that it has this purpose and don't do it in the firt place for money.
Also think of the lids later. If they find out, some of them wants to meet their real dad and some of them won't. Are you ready for meeting your children that you never raised up, never choose for to have.
Think about those stuff because being a donor is not a little thing for all the other people that are involved.

I realize its a serious thing for the people involved. I plan to have a mature attitude going in there and not like "lol omgz i jizz 4 cash$$$!@!!!" Like I said I'd be more than happy to get to know any children my sperm produce down the road if they chose to meet me. I realize it could be hugely important for them to get to know me even if I wasn't a part of their life.

Let me know how it goes. I have always wanted to do this myself. I would do it for free.
Uhmm, okay that's a little creepy.

You bring up some good points; but the truth is the majority of college age men that donate sperm do it because it is quick, easy money.

I saw a special a while ago about a guy with a freakishly high IQ that donated sperm when he was in college because he felt the world deserved to have more brilliant people in it. Or some such conceited nonsense. He had no real interest in his progeny. They showed him years later with a wife and kids of his own and him meeting some of his donor sperm children. He was cordial but also kind of an arrogant ass. You could tell he didn't want to be bothered.

To be honest, I must say that it's quite attempting to earn money in the way we all like. But it still is a huge decision that you make. Like your article said, how unfair is that guy.

I know peole who have had fertility problems so I'm for anything that will help them to create a family within reason. I think donor sperm and donor eggs fall into the within reason category. However, I really believe that they should always be anonymous. The only time a donor parent should be contacted is if they need additional genetic information if the child gets sick with some obscure disease or something.

Why do you feel that way thought nj? What if the child finds out their father was some anonymous donor and they can never find out who he was? I think choice is the best option. If someone wants to remain anonymous its the donor's choice. But at the same time non-anonymous donors should be more than welcomed if they want to be there for the child they help create at a later point in the child's life.

I totally agree with that.

Because there have been instances recently where the donor daddy was contacted for child support. To me that's just wrong.

There was a different type of donor daddy issue a year or two ago where a lesbian couple used the sperm of a male friend. They did everything legally with contracts, lawyers, etc, before the insemination occurred.

Fast forward a few years, the lesbian couple breaks up, and now the custodial mom sues the donor dad for child support. :wtf1: It went to court and the idiot judge sided with the mom. She should have sued her former partner for child support as he had already signed papers stating he was out of it.

What if the child finds out their father was some anonymous donor and they can never find out who he was?
Oh well, I'm sure that's something any woman who does artificial insemination has considered. I know I did when I considered artificial insemination.

I think choice is the best option. If someone wants to remain anonymous its the donor's choice. But at the same time non-anonymous donors should be more than welcomed if they want to be there for the child they help create at a later point in the child's life.
That's your choice OrbitzXT and if it works for you that's great. I think the problem arises when one signs up to be non-anonymous, then 10-20 years later your life and circumstances are such that a child really doesn't fit in. Yet you have already made the commitment to be available to them.

Meh, I'm probably over dramatizing the situation.

im always curious, how's the semen extracted
Seriously? Whaddaya mean extracted? It's not a group project, nor is it rocket science. :duh:

The sperm donor goes into a small, private room, alone.
The sperm bank provides a variety of porn magazines and movies.
The sperm donor masturbates and then ejaculates into a specimen cup.

Aw shit NJ - you had to go and post the truth - I had a great post about wide bore needles and suction machines and all sorts of crazy shit
Come on Manly tell us how they get a direct sperm sample from the testicles. You know incase some man out there doesn't know how to give a semen sample by themselves.

I remember hearing something about it once... refresh my memory with needles and suction machines :biggrin1::wink:

Also see it from this point of view. Parents who decide to take donorsperm to get childs, don't have the need that someone else helps them with raising their children, especially not the donor. They made the choice to have child in that way, so they have decide to raise the child like it was totally their own child. So for the donor it is better to stay annonymous so it doesn't make problems with the parents or child.

I agree.

If the donor is ok with being non-anonymous, and leaves the choice to make contact in the future to the child, then I'd say it's none of our business. The guy has a right to make a choice I'd say.

It's not too different than a woman who gives a child up for a adoption and leaves the choice to make future contact up to the (adult) child. Is it?
My ex had a baby when she was seventeen. The girl was adopted and my wife signed papers that the child could contact her if she ever wanted to meet her birth mother. There was a stipulation that the girl had to wait until she was 21, but my wife could never make contact unless the girl requested it. The mother also had the right to refuse to meet her.

They met last year and luckily, all is good.

Also, I don't see what's creepy about being willing to donate sperm for free.
