Had a real scare this week when I was diagnosed with Epidimitus. My right testicle and spermatic cord became extremely swollen and painfull and there was blood in my semen and urine. I went to the doctor Monday and he prescribed antibiotics, gave me a shot and asked for a urine sample.
I finally saw some improvement on Wednesday but my testicle was still somewhat swollen, rock hard and painfull. I went back on Friday for my followup and the doctor was not satisfied with the progress and extended my antiobotics to 2 weeks. He also suggested that I ejaculate daily to help speed up the recovery. I asked what caused the situation and he said that most men experience the problem a couple of times in their life and that the infection seeks the spongy tissue of the testicle and prostate but there are many ways that it can happen.
This is a very painfull and scary illness and hope that I never experience it again. Has anyone ever been diagnosed with Epidimitus and what did you do to clear it up? Any ideas about how you got it and what can be done to prevent it? I am going back to the doctor next week to have it checked again and I'm going to ask if there are any long term effects for the prolonged infection.

Had it about a month after my vasectomy - extreme pain in my left ball, exceeding upward. The physician's assistant who did the exam (about 28, cute...nothing like getting felt up by someone almost half your age !) told me it just "happens" to guys a few times in their life. A 10 day supply of antibiotics and I was feeling better in 3 or 4 days. I did have a buddy at work who had a similar problem and got the antibiotics and was told to jack off several times to help the pressure/pain. Best of luck

I had it about 17 years ago. The doc gave me antibiotics and told me to dump at least 3 loads a day to help clear out the pipes. It was gone in about a week. I sure hope I never have to go through that pain again.

I have chronic epidimitus. I've had just about every antibiotic there is and it really never goes away for me. My balls stay extremely tender to the slightest of touches which sucks because I love, on the rare occassions they are not sore, to have my balls sucked on.

I too experienced experienced chronic epididymitus and an inlarged right testicle around 2004. The urologist treated it with antibiotics but that did not help. After about 16 months of doctor visits and further testing (i.e., ultra sounds observation) and questioning me the doctor concluded that urine was backing up from my bladder to the epiditymis through the spermatic cord when I was exercising. I was instructed to empty my bladder before jogging or any strenuous activity. That pretty much solved the chronic problem except my right testicle is sensitive to fondling - I can live with that.

I'm now experiencing the problem. It's been about 6 weeks for me. The doc said it was NOT and STD. He put me on antibotics for a week and it went away, but now, a week later the pain/discomfort has returned. I'm seeing my doc in 2 days. It sounds like this can be hard to get rid of. Sucks.

I'm happy to report that after 10 days of antibiotics, I'm back to normal. Daily ejaculation seems to help alot but difficult with an extremely sore testicle.
I questioned my doctor about how I developed the infection and he says there is really no way to tell. He says that most men will experience it 2 to 3 times in a life time. He stressed the fact that it is very important to ejaculate often as that seems to prevent epidimitus from coming back. It does seem to be a difficult infection to cure and with blood in the urine and semen, it's scary as hell.
How come Dad never told me about this?

Good to hear. It's been 7 weeks for me now. I had only 1 week of antibotics which really did the task, but now about a week after, I got the uncomfortable itch. It's like the infection in my urethra clearned up, but then after I ejaculated, whatever was in my testicles (its the left one that is somewhat painful) spread back to the tube in the penis. I"m going back to see my urologist tomorrow. Argh. It'll probably be put back on a longer dose of antibiotics. Wish me luck!

It sure is uncomfortable isn't it. The very first time I had this problem, I told my Urologist it felt like my testicles weighed about a pound or more each and that they were going to drag the ground or fall out. Before he did an exam, he told me what it was. lol

How come Dad never told me about this?

I had my first, mad hopefully last, bout of this over the summer. Mine developed right after trauma to my left and. At first the docs were worried about testicular torsion, but an ultrasound ruled that out. Urinalysis revealed blood in my urine (enough to make it cloudy). STD were ruled out with testing (no surprise there, been monogamous for almost 3 years), no E.coli, either. I was placed on a ten day round of antibiotics, told to avoid sex (as the slapping of balls would not be conducive to healing, lol) but to cum at least 2 to 3 times a day if possible, to speed recovery (was unable to, as the pain was so severe, just couldn’t get it up till day 10) To help with swelling I was taking ibuprofen, and had to were supportive underwear (to prevent jostling). The weirdest part was I had to sleep with a towel rolled under my balls to support them. After ten days I felt fine, and on day 12 or 14 (I misremember) I was having fun with my Guy once again.

Unfortunately epididymitis is can be hard to cure, and can come back. Thankfully that wasn't the case with me, and I hope to never experience that ever again. Glad to hear you are doing better!

I dealt with it 3 times over a period from my senior year in high school through my junior year in college. Mine were never "uncomfortable." They was doubled-over-in-the-ER-"quit-asking-me-all-these-questions-and-get-me-a-doctor-already" debilitating. When I went to the campus clinic during the 2nd episode, my doc was actually the clinic director, who upon taking her first look said, "That's impressive" before sending me on to the hospital.

I honestly forget how everything played out the first time, but my family doctor thought it may have been triggered by a long road trip in a bench-seat pickup truck as I was scouting colleges with my parents. That second time, the docs wrote it off as an infection, got me on some meds, and I was fine in a day or three. The third time, I was referred to a urologist. He concluded I had been getting testicular torsions all along, and they were just working themselves out by the time I made it to the doctor.

I had whatever corrective surgery they do for that, I don't know what it's called but as I understood it, they attach the lining of the testicle to the inner lining of the scrotum. I recall the doc referring to it as "tacking down" the testicle. The urologist assured me I'd have no long-term problems, and that's held up so far into my late 30s. Aside from the initial stitches, I had no way of knowing they even did anything.

I'd strongly encourage anyone who's had multiple bouts with epididymitis to see a specialist to rule out any underlying causes.

So I went back to my urologist who put me on 10 days of antibotics. The thinks it urine backwashing into the wrong pipes when I work out. But get this, during the exam he stuck like 10 inches of a telescope stainless steel thing (like a chop-stick but thicker) with a light into my pee hole and then all the way in to take a look. WTF? I had no idea that was coming. Yikes! I could not believe it got that thing in me. In the end, all was clear; no lumps, no blockages, no tearing. He said it's not cancer or anything as threatening. It's just an infection that many many many men in their 30 and 40s get.

I'm starting to feel better now again and am conforted that the treatment is working. The penis: it's complicated.

you'll need two hands....I know what you mean watching that rod sliding up your penis. the very first time I remember going the Dr., I was 6. My bladder had developed a blockage at the urinary tract. When I urniated, it just dripped. My mother held one leg, the nurse another and my dad held my shoulders and body down while the Dr. slid this tool into me. For a 6 year old, it looked like a light pole. And, for days hurt so bad I could hardly pee. BUT. Buddy I have a really big urinary tract. lol

I thankfully never had to deal with a scope, but I did have to get a catheter once prior to a surgery. What amazed me was that inserting it into the hole wasn't bad at all, it was the scraping up against my insides as they slid it in there that hurt like a sumbitch.
