I'm kind of oblivious. I can never tell if a guy is gay. The exception is guys who are ostentatiously gay, but I tend not to be attracted to them.

How can I improve my gaydar so I don't make an ass of myself by flirting with straight guys?

That is a tough one to answer dude. My personal experience is that you get a glint in the eye when you share a moment of suggestive banter. Usually guys who are easily aroused in conversation are the most open to suggestion. Eye contact and body language are quite accurate things to look out for. Have an open conversation general conversation about male parts and see how they respond. Those who are not interested will quickly move on to another topic

In the end, you do need to ask. Or wait to be told. But there can be some clues along the way. Some of them are based on stereotypes, so it doesn't always work ... But sometimes it does ...

- do they refer to "my partner" instead of wife/girlfriend?
- do they seem not too interested in team sports ?
- do they mention books? Theatre plays?
- do they talk about things like home furnishings, home electronics ?
- can they cook, bake etc.?
- do they wear any "designer" brands - jeans, underwear, belts, shoes etc.?
- where do they go on vacation ?
- do they have body language / facial expressions that make them seem interested in you ?

... You're not likely to find many who show the whole set. So any two or three might do ...

Almost every one of the above "indications" are so stereotypical that they're meaningless. Many of my gay friends wouldn't give you any of those indications.

The best thing I can tell you is that most genuinely straight men will look at you but their eye contact will stop at about 12 inches before it hits your face. A gay man's gaze will continue into your eyes (regardless of whether or not he's attracted to you); it will be a deeper and more genuine eye contact and you will probably get a sense of recognition even when you don't intend to. Straight men are conditioned not to do that and are generally uncomfortable doing so. Some gay men are as well but are more compelled to do. Keep your eyes open for it.

and then again, it's NOT.

Nice response my fave person ha
tbh
it aint one of my most popular words
sort of a lil demeaning me thinks ..
but thats probably just staid ole me ....

Gaydar is something that takes some time to finely tune; I suggest you spend some time at a gay resort or gay bar (as the worst case scenario) to learn the sometimes subtle nuances men give to each other... in the end gaydar can fail and the only way you can really tell is...It's In His Kiss!

To be honest, and this includes myself, I think many of us "think" we have a fine tuned gaydar when in actually just about anybody can spot the ones that our "supposed gaydar" figured out. I work with a guy that is definitely totally straight and a metrosexual to boot (wears great clothes, smells great, hot as hell, etc.) that could easily be mistaken for gay. Sometimes I hear thru the grapevine of did you hear, so and so is gay. Usually it's a person that my gaydar didn't pick up at all. So in actuality, do I have a gaydar? Not really. Other people can spot the gay guys just as much as I can and they don't have any supposed "gaydar".

What do his eyes do when a goodlooking girl or MILF walks by? If he is straight he WILL look I don't care if he is 16 or 60. If he is gay he won't even notice her.

What does he do when a goodlooking guy walks by? Most str8 guys will look but they won't stare.

If he is VGL and is constantly surrounded by a bunch of women who basicly worship the ground he walks on but he doesn't have a girlfriend and has never had one. Only works if he is VGL.

Is he decked out from head to toe in Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister clothes? A few years ago when I was in grad school this was a dead give away. Those dudes may as well have worn a sign that said "Im Gay"

Is he over 30 and STILL shopping at Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister? If he is, he is GAY! LOL
