What does it take to be a pornstar, how to qualify?
They say the three qualities, simply, are a great body, a great face, a great dick. If you have two out three, you can make it. Really, what's more important is exhibitionism - you have to want to be seen and enjoy it. You also have to be absolutely certain that you don't object to people around the world maybe seeing you with your legs behind your ears. A past in hardcore porn is not advisable if you intend to run for public office.
One usually gets involved by sending explicit pictures of yourself to the company who you want to work for. Glamour shots, nudes, not necessarily action shots. If they like what they see, they will call you in for an interview/audition.
Any of you worked in pornography?
Not in front of the camera, no. But I've been a journalist covering the industry for more than six years, so I know a lot of the figures involved.
What's the everyday life of an adult filmstar like?
I always advise people that you should not make porn your life. Make movies, have fun, commit your gorgeousness to eternity, but have something else to fall back on. No matter how successful you may or may not end up being, porn is not a lifelong occupation. You should have a day job too, or at least the prospects for one in the future.
Do you a have to go to school?
Some companies and directors will like to do test scenes with you first before committing to casting you in a film, just to see how you handle yourself in front of a camera, can you actually get it up, etc.
I know you probrably think it's fun but guys say it's work.
It
is work. Having sex on camera is not like having sex in private, because in most cases you have to keep stopping and starting so the director can move the camera and tell you exactly what positions he wants you to get into. Having a room full of camera crew, lighting guys, makeup guys, director yelling instructions and random ogglers can make it difficult to actually enjoy yourself.
Do you get to choose who you work with?
Very rarely. A director will usually try to put you with someone he thinks you're a good match for, physically, sexually and temperamentally. A good director will try his best to make you comfortable. After all, he wants to get the best possible scene out of it, which isn't gonna happen if the two guys just don't click at all. But only the most absolutely highest-level of all porn stars get to choose specifically who they work with. And of course, not every director will be a good one.
Do you go around the world on shows, meet fans, be interviewed?
If you get to be sufficiently famous, yes. There seems to be three levels that porn stars fall into, to my mind.
1. The instant hit, the new big thing, the most incredible find ever. A company may sign this guy to an exclusive contract to promote the hell out him, which can mean interviews, appearances, travel, magazine covers, photoshoots, the whole deal. Examples: Roman Heart, Francois Sagat.
2. Guys who are hot, do good work, and work their way up through the ranks until they receive some recognition. Examples: Trevor Knight, Brett Matthews.
3. Guys who are okay, basically place-fillers if you need a reliable extra body. Nothing really wrong with them, they just don't have that extra spark that makes people stand up and pay attention. Examples: Trey Castille, Park Wiley.
And above all, how much do you get paid?
Varies enormously according to nature of scene, size of company, quality of guy. Could be anything from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand per scene.
