The cartoon is long and very technical, especially as you get to the V8
stuff but Chrome will give FireFox a definite run, at least in the
beginning. Some things I like about it:
Has its own task manager and in each tab so if you see your Hard Dick
grinding away you can find out specifically what is causing it.
Doesn't close entire browser with a problem, just the tab (even FF closes
and then restarts browser)
Has fewer features but is more solid and faster.
Incorporates a Java Script Virtual Machine making it safer.
Pop-ups are restricted to the original tab and put on the bottom unless you drag it out.
New tabs don't go to the home page (that you probably already have open!) but to a new tab page that shows the 9 most used pages and the 4 most searched pages.
Web Apps like GMail run in their own windows without the URL bar.
Auto-complete does not return complete URL!
Maleware is restricted to its own tab and cannot write to your system.
Chrome included an API to monitor the internet for Maleware and Phishing and warns you of known bad sites.
IT IS OPEN SOURCE. They don't care if FF or IE use the source!

Firefox is now hovering around 50% market share... amazing. One good thing about FF is how thin the app is... curious given all the functionality you describe how thin the client is (i.e. memory suck, especially with multiple tabs up). There is some heady stuff on the J-Script VM, and restacking on the client and so forth. I do like the "memory hog" feature... but that's like having a fuel/air mixture gauge on a car... very important, but the average user won't get it/use it.


The kids at Google know their stuff...some very cool stuff.

They are copying Opera's interface a great deal. I like the one-process-per-tab idea to prevent the whole browser from freezing up. I'll try it.

Yes, I'm a die-hard Opera user (since it's the best browser available...and no I won't back it up), and the interface looks rather familiar. I hate the fact that it has the damn Google lettering loud and in front.

Google will soon own the internet.

Nah, Chrome is OK, but still lacks all the add-ins that makes browsing fun.

Chrome is not as fast as Firefox in loading pages - test it at e.g. CNN or LPSG. It doesn't support Java, so no chatting at lpsg - and what really have bugged me all day, it doesn't support my touchpad properly - I can scroll down but not up - annoying.

However, I do like the porn/privacy mode - it's much better than Firefox and IE.

If Google Chrome gets the same number of add-ins as Firefox it will be neat.

I will continue using Firefox and for ultra safe browsing I will use:

With scripts disabled. Then no files are downloaded automatically etc.

I like that the new tab (when you select to open a link in new tab) opens up next to the source tab. However I hate that ctrl+shift+enter do not result in .org in the address bar, I really got used to that one.

I downloaded Chrome earlier this afternoon and this is my first visit to LPSG with it. I'm finding the browser a little hard to navigate and I don't think I'm going to get used to it telling me stuff I don't want to know (like a list of recently visited bookmarks.)

Maybe, after it gets some feedback, Google will tweak some of this stuff so that it becomes optional. Right now, though, I think I'm going to do my normal web surfing with Firefox.

I up loaded the new IE8 today, I am still learning about all it features. I also have Opera and Firefox also. I am finding that I am using Firefox more and more. I can't seem to get the hang of Opera but I am still learning. I like that the new IE8 has the private browsing feature. Can anyone tell me if this is available on the other browsers, I really like the idea of not everyone knowing my browsing habits.

I thought I'd bump this thread instead of creating a new one.

I have been using Firefox for the past year. I really liked it. It was faster than IE and at the time Opera, which I had used for years before, didn't allow me to use the Chat room. there was some kind of Java problem with Opera.

Anyhow, back to Firefox. Since upgrading to FF3 three weeks ago, I have been having major issues with it. First off, when typing in a message box on this and other sites, the cursor would jump from where I was, to another location in what I'd already written. It was happening constantly and getting to the point where I could hardly write a post. The browser was slower than FF2. It was nearly as slow as IE and as the days went by, it was getting worse. Slow to start is well.

Two days ago the bookmark toolbar decided to quit working. Only one of the links I had put there was showing and it would not let me put any new ones in.

This morning the 'Back' and 'Forward' buttons quit working. They are greyed out and have no function. Right clicking the mouse for the menu, I found back and forward don't work either. The only way backwards and forwards is from the keyboard commands.

So...I went looking for solutions on the web and found that other people have been experiencing similar problems. I tried all the suggestions, disabled Add-Ons, disabled extensions, etc. Didn't work. I re-installed the browser. No change. I went through a complete un-install, downloaded a fresh FF3 and installed it. It was the same. Obviously it's in conflict with another program or file on the computer, but damned if I can find it.

So I said 'fuck this' and decided to try Chrome. Damn it's fast! No more cursor jumping around, it's got Java, so the Chat room works. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Firefox. But all the functionality I need is here. The address bar rocks too. It combines the Google search box with the normal address functions. Type a partial address in there and it finds it.

It just has a nice speedy feel to it. Like driving a Audi compared to a Tahoe.

Has anyone else been having trouble with Firefox 3?
