Has anyone else gone through plantar faccitis? what helped you get rid of it?

I could never get to 160 lbs. Too skinny for me. May work for some of you, definitely not for me. I haven't been 160 lbs. since I was in high school.

And that's fine.

But, so long as you choose to be unrealistic about your weight, you will continue to suffer cumulative health problems.

Just wait until your knees and hips begin to give out on you...

I thought it was tendonitis... It was not. I bought sneaker inserts at CVS and it helped. I used to run every day. Now I eliptical one day. Bike day two, run day three and swim day four. Repeat. I lost no endurance on my runs but my feet are happier. Sucks to get old!

I want to throw this out there. Think it relates to topic. When I was around forty ...a doctor who had an amazing rep in foot treatment nationally...Convinced me to get an operation on my feet. It is a new procedure to aid foot problems you describe. It involved cutting some calf muscle to elongate the calf and help the bend of the foot. Sounded great on paper. I checked it all out before hand. It left me with interior scarring that deferrs pain now to my feet. I'm athletic still but suffer 24 hour pain in my feet. If anyone suggests this surgery, don't do it. I just wanted to share in case it comes up in conversation with your doctor.

Okay so I haven't done any activity for one week, still sore when I wake up, but not too bad. Unfortunately my PF has turned up a bone spur. I've learned today that I can treat a bone spur with the correct orthodic arch support. Once I wear in for a few weeks, and lift the arch up again......the pain and spur will regress. Interesting how lowering of foot arches can cause calcium to build on the heels of your feet.

I honest to god wore some flat boots one day, walked to Starbucks from my office and when I got back I had a terrible pain in my left foot that lasted for a YEAR!! It was plantar fasciitis but it just would not go away because I wear flip flops way too often. I'm not going to wear Nike's with capri pants or whatever. The only reason it got better was because I forced myself to wear cross trainers with a lot of arch support. To this day if I wear flip flops sometimes I'll step on my foot and it feels like the tendon in my arch just snaps and it hurts like hell. Its no fun thats for sure.

I went through this when training for my first marathon. It was especially painful first thing in the morning, it felt like bruises in my heals.
What worked for me was a stretching exercise where I stood on a stair step facing up and stretched my heal up and down. I did this many times during the day, it really worked for me. I've since run the marathon 7 times, no more pain. I hope this helps.

No, I am 60+.
Contrary to popular belief, being an old man does not forgive being a dick. His body composition has nothing to do with plantar fasciitis... Weight, maybe... But whether that weight is muscle, fat, or body jewelry makes no difference to his feet. If he's content with his weight, let him be. There are ways to deal with plantar fasciitis other than being whatever weight YOU happen to think is appropriate.

He brought up the weight, not me. And it is not what weight I think is appropriate but what current medical and physiological science says is appropriate.

Oh, and I am not an old man nor am I a dick. YOU SIR are the one who is throwing around insults and that makes YOU the dick.

This worked for my grandmother's heel spurs, too. If stretching on a step is not possible, the same stretch can be done to a lesser degree by standing near a wall, facing it, and leaning forward with your palms on the wall. Adjust posture as needed. You can also do a YouTube search for videos teaching you to build up your arches.

I am an athlete who competes at a very high level.
My bodyfat is somewhere around 8%.
Yet, the "current medical and physiological science" says I'm overweight .
Try using some common sense with your faulty "scientific" references....
You'll look much less foolish there, Einstein.

I don't care what you think but I am willing to place a bet that you will suffer a heart attack long before I do.

Pro linebackers complete at a very high level. Nevertheless, a fair number of them know that their weight and body composition is extremely unhealthy and they eventually do something about it. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...lineman-to-drop-massive-weight-221433702.html

And, by the way...

The OP does not claim to be a competitive anything. He is simply overweight and knows it; after all, it was he who first brought up the issue by saying he could stand to lose 10 lbs.

I have simply suggested that science says he should lose significantly more than that. I have science on my side; what have you got?

Common sense, modern science, logic above a paranoid third grader.
You're 20 + years older than I am. You'll be worm food, while the rest of us look at old posts and wonder " whatever happened to that idiot??".
P.S., bonehead....your beloved science also told folks that marijuana causes cancer, steroids don't work, and smoking cigarettes was good for you.
Pull your wrinkled head outta your ass.

Dude you are a fuckin idiot! Quit hiding behind that box of a profile. By the way, I swim 40 laps a week, play basketball and lift lightly. Get off that couch and put the dope away. 'Heart attack'......punk ass!

Science says nothing of the sort! Put the weed down and pick up a book!

I developed symptoms very similar to plantar faccitis after wearing a pair of Vans shoes on a weekend getaway. I have high arches and Vans are just as flat as can be. They were hurting my feet on the first day and I had no chance to get other shoes. I had pain such that could barely walk for a week, until I went to my chiropractor who adjusted the bones in my feet and put things right. Relief was immediate.
