Sorry for the long texts.
I shared my experience and that of my niece as real life examples of how treatment can help. Medication isn't the only option. The degree to which one's life is impaired should dictate what level of treatment is needed.
In my case I knew I had an issue but not why. I sought help and my family and friends were happy I did so. I admit you can't help those who feel they don't need help. It seems the OP is telling his partner that he needs help and it's reached a point where the OP is ready to walk.
People close to me were starting to avoid me and my relationships and productivty at work were suffering. In time I admitted to myself that I needed professional help.
For a decade now medication combined with other means to manage my condition has helped me and at least personally I've had no ill effects once on the right medication and dosage. I agree not all cases warrant medication. Still it's there for those who need it and choose to use it.
No apologie necessary and all is Cool. Thanks for the extra space. And it's great your post is nuanced.
Let's hope these guys will be able to work it out. I'm a romantic at heart, very deep at heart but still I don't like it when people in love feel they need to separate.
