From reading other people's posts and in life in general, I always hear stuff like: oh she's just rich cause she's beautiful while "insert name here" is rich because he's intelligent and worked hard for his place.

Well, "jacks" intelligence is "given" to him just like beauty is given to "julia".

Jack stayed up late, finished college and so on, julia starves herself to look good, doesnt have time to settle down etc...etc...

Why do people always think that the intelligent person worked harder or did something out of the ordinary? while the beautiful person they say "oh h/she was born with it", well he didnt create his intelligence, he developed it?? well so did h/she they watch what they eat, get surgery, use products etc...

Why does society view those people as better or in a higher place, even though the latter are the ones they are most facisnated by??

You humans are damn wierd:biggrin1:

sounds rather subjective to me. i would suppose it all depends on the person you're talking to and how they perceive people

Beauty is fickle. It comes and goes very easy. When age hits you like a piano dropped on the head, what will you have left? It doesn't give you the ability to make a lasting contribution to society. All you've got left is your "bubble-gum" beauty pageant personality.

Intelligence is really several different things including knowledge, raw talent, creativity, and logical reasoning. Knowledge alone is nearly as worthless as beauty. What good does it do me to memorize a set of encyclopedias, the dictionary, and the thesaurus if I already own those books? It doesn't do a damn thing for me or anyone else. The ability to learn gives us a way to improve ourselves and our environment. The ability to create art, music, or great literary and philosophical works adds cultural value to society. A new invention can save lives and a great piece of computer software can make life just a little more bearable. That's why "intelligence" is more important to the human race. It makes our existence better.

True physical beauty requires nothing more than soap, water and a comb. How much work is that?

Intelligence is NOT a given, only the potential to BE intelligent if you as an individual choose to apply it.

Beauty changes nothing, intellect, artistry and invention change the entire world.

You make me think of the Enlightenment, and the Age of Reason--and remember them with fondness. You homo rationalis.

I think intelligence is beautiful. If i see someone hot, and they say something ignorant or stupid, they aren't so hot to me anymore.

Humans is incredible strange though

i can't express how much i agree

*is it because i'm not intelligent?*

Sorce hit a great point...talent is beautiful.

There are all sorts of cliches that we've heard from our mamas and grandmamas all our lives..."beauty is only skin deep", etc. I won't lie and say that I don't look for beauty, but it's the combination of intelligence, talent, personality, and physical beauty that all couple together to really make a person beautiful. Add in some great eyes and teeth and the package really is made complete.

Look at how many truly gorgeous people are out there who don't have an ounce of intelligence and how many intelligent people out there who got hit by the ugly stick. If the choice is one extreme or the other, I'll just keep my dog, thank you. In every day life, my reality is that many things work together to make a person both intelligent and beautiful. I don't think that I can choose just one or the other, nor would I want to.
