I think thta would have been weird.

Like I understand that their comic-canon relationship (adoptive brothers) does not carry over to the specifics of the show but that's still weird to me.

I agree. not every kiss depends only on the chemistry but also on the coordinator and the other actor. With Emilien everyting was more free and queer. I believe anso Emilien is queer (gay or bi or whatever doesn’t matter) so it was easier.
