Jockstraps why and when?

I'm feeling like I must have been living in another dimension. Upon entering junior high school in 1962, jock straps were required for mandatory physical education classes as part of your gym clothing which included white shorts, T-shirt, and sneakers. Proper hygiene included taking a gang shower with all your classmates prior to returning to your remaining scheduled courses for the day. We never had time to query about sexuality, or imagine abnormalities existed among our peers. Come to think about it, jock straps were called athletic supporters. Accepted common knowledge was girls weren't required to wear them, because they didn't have external gonads that required protection.

For my high school experience for PE lessons it wasn't required to wear a jockstrap/cup but for those of us that took Karate class it was a requirement that we had to wear a jockstrap.
I absolute loved it and couldnt wait to get my hands on my own pair but some in my class i remember kept complaining about it and saying smart comments like its so 'gay' they are making us wear these!

How times have changed! I got my first jock for playing summer league baseball. In school we were required to wear jocks and change into PE uniforms starting in middle school. Wearing a jock was an expectation. Everybody saw everybody getting changed and in the showers. Where did all the hypersensitivity come from?

… … the smart-ass comments, "it's so gay" have a life of their own. Gaiety used to refer to fun activity, and some how evolved into a synonym for homosexuality and immature negativity. By association if you wear a jockstrap, you must be gay.

Ive been looking at some jockstraps and they sure look damn sexy on most of guys. I thought about buying ones to wear during summer or workout for better ventilation, but I wonder how socially acceptable it is to undress myself in the locker room wearing a jockstrap. Are there any guys here who use jock straps for reasons which are not only about sex?

Change into/out of a bike jockstrap every day in the gym. I'm 29 and have worn a jock for athletics since I was 19. Wasn't ever presented as an option when I was a teenage athlete, but that was right when Under Armour became big

This is a total non-issue. No matter what you wear under your clothes, almost no guys will say anything. If you're jocked up under jeans, just undress as if it's normal. If by remote chance a guy asks, just tell him you like how jocks feel.

perfectly said !!! An important utility use and function a jockstrap is despite becoming such a highly sensual item . However at the right time it does what it does so well . On the topic of compression wear for quads etc , I have been training strictly with compression wear below my gym sweat pants or T-shirt just to keep the muscle group training warm and enough blood flow and it’s been working great . Fitted clothes look great for gym but they also serve a purpose for just that .

I use a McDavid Swim Jock that is over-sized in the waistband so as to avoid the muffin top effect. Despite being slender, I wear a large. As for comfort, I just find them to allow great freedom of movement, when worn with loose shorts, for doing squats.

40, married, hung here. I always wear a jock at the gym. I like the fit of them, they feel great under gym shorts and they’re great in the locker room, dudes always sneak a peek of a full jock.

Played baseball through college so got comfortable wearing them.

Still wear a jogger/swimmer jock for long runs (the liners in running shorts aren’t great for distance).

Wear a traditional jock for lifting.

Still prefer the traditional white Bike jock.

I love the classic Bike jock too except for running - the mesh is a little scratchy. The spandex sports briefs are much more comfortable, even if they don't highlight the pouch as much.
