That twinge in your intestines
We have an election coming up in North Carolina on May 8, and one of the issues being voted on is an amendment to Article 14 of the state constitution stating that "Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts. "

A devious trick is afoot. This measure has been added to a primary ballot. Now, most people don't vote in primaries, but this is our only chance to defeat this unjust, unfair piece of legislation. If you live in North Carolina and aren't registered to vote, please get yourself to the board of elections and get yourself registered. Show up and vote.

One of the few things which could help in a positive way, would be the possible large Democratic turnout which may be boosted because of the decision of Governor Bev Perdue not to run for a second term. At this time there are 8 or 9 people contending for the spot in the general election later in the year. Do more people show up for primaries when there are several candidates to choose from on a State level as opposed to just local leaders like mayors or town councils?

How involved are the Democrats and how much are they for equality in North Carolina? Will they show up in enough force to defeat this?

It will be interesting as well to see how much President Obama and the White House step into this, will they want to get involved or stay a little quiet since they are holding the Dem.National Convention there in September?
