I'm intreged, what exactly is Dystymia?
[post=282050]Quoted post[/post]
Dysthymia is a mood disorder, like manic depression, only without the mania. Not normally considered a learning disability, but it can be difficult to get dysthymic students to study, or do anything for that matter. (That's depression for you.)

Sweet Caroline -- There's a particular type of dyslexia specifically for math; it's called dyscalculia.

I suffer from chronic dysthymia and it affects my learning for sure... I have dropped out of studies before from bouts of depression, I have very little interest in studying and become tired and get on a real downer when I have to study anything or read any boring shit. My mood swings also make me get bored easily and I can't focus on much for too long, I am a typical scatter brain in that sense. I repeated my 12th year at school coz I did not finish it the first time and dropped out of my first uni studies coz of it too. IN addition my assignments are always late... but as I am quite clever I manage to get through some how, this year I am doing my final 4 units of my MBA.... I just hope that I can focus a little so that I can get through it.

Hey, you really know your disorders.... Yeah, my dyslexia is mostly dyscalculia but, its just transpositional. I've really got none of the other symptoms of dyscalcuila like problems with time, or mathmatical concepts etc. I also have some issues with words/letters. I just find it easier to call it all dyslexia as most people have never heard of the other....

Sweet Caroline--what you described sounds like dyslexia to me. Transposing letter, numbers or symbols is dyslexia.

Dyscalculia is an inability to calculate and do math as a whole.

Dysgraphia being an inability to perform the physical mechanics of writing.

Etc.

Sweet Caroline: Yeah.... I've talked with several different Docs/specialists/etc over the years, some say dislexia, some say discalculia, some say a bit of both, some say neither, you're just lazy.....

Whatever it's called or whatever the reason, it's a problem with trasposing characters and it usually happens with numbers. I just consider myslef lucky as it's quite mild and more often than not I catch it....

hung_big: I'm surprised at how so many people on this site has Learning Disorders. It's quite amazing how the forum with the most intillects on it has the most people with learning disabilities, as far as I know. And, as it seems, alot of the time there are people with learning disabilities that are intillects.

I commend all of you for living your life like nothing is wrong. I commend you for pulling youselves up and not let any of your disabilities get in the way of your daily life.

My hats are off to you!

Note: I don't have any LD's, as far as I know (which isn't far :p)
