List of gyms with open/communal showers?

-Prue Rd Gold's Gym San Antonio, Tx. [stone stairstep dividers]
-Thousand Oaks/Nacogdoches Gold's Gym San Antonio, Tx. [solid stone dividers]
Not totally open (I know of no remaining true open showers in central Texas) but no doors or curtains, so fairly open to anybody that wants to look. Especially Prue Rd. where the showers are really close to the walkway to the pool/hot tub/sauna/steam and you cant NOT see guys showering in the first two alcoves as you walk by.

Wow, if you google lockerroom privacy, there are tons of articles where open showers are being removed everywhere at costs close to 1 million and even in basically new rec centers. I get the need for a youth, family, and transgender privacy area, but can't they just add that without converting the regular lockerroom too? Seems like those complaning are never going to shower there regardless. Also, interesting how millenials have no problem with naked selfies but need so much privacy at the gym. What will be the long term impact of this modesty change? Are we cycling back to the 1920s? Will we be removing all this in 20 years in favor of open designs? Why is no one questioning these decisions more? Also, thought we were trying to be green and leave a green footprint and be efficient. Aren't open designs and bradley poles the most efficient and green you can get? Why aren't millenials in favor of that? FYI, I'm in my 30s if that matters when taking my thoughts into account.
Yes, we are WELL into this happening at many locations. When I did poolside entertainment events, I never saw an existing shower setup at ANY pool in this area. Older locations had bricked them up and anything built in the last 20 years has been built without showers or any changing room/bench at all. Kids are ferried to the pool in swimsuits and ferried home. Or in poorer/older neighborhoods, they walk or bike. Nobody is showering at neighborhood pools anymore.

I have wondered the same thing - the amount of webcam shows by college age kids is unbelievable but the guys that age seem very modest in locker room. Odd...

I've said this about many things but I think we can blame the Internet and the dependency on social media by millenials as the only way to communicate, express emotion, and have human interaction, especially with other men. It's no coincidence this lockerroom change is happening by demand from a generation who needs that "wall" between them and another person. In this case, it's an actual instead of virtual wall.

That is odd, isn't it? Boys and young men now seem totally comfortable with sending dick pics/videos even where they show their face...and many are far younger than college age. We really do need to be teaching our kids the potential consequences of doing this...as well as update our ridiculous sex offender laws. A young teenager should not be charged with a CP felony because he sent a picture to a friend, that wasn't the intent of those laws.

Seattle guy here. Off the top of my head, here are the places I can think of with open showers.

Downtown Seattle YMCA: Yes, they have open showers, and no, I do not recommend going. This used to be the cruisest place in the world; I loved this gym and would go all the time and always get action. Well, I guess word got around cuz they instituted a ban on nudity in the Sauna, steam, and whirlpool, so that’s officially ruined. I wrote an angry letter but nobody’s listening, we gotta be sensitive to those stick up ass straight people who aren’t going to use the shower area anyway cuz they’re so terrified of nudity. So don’t go to this gym and support them.

Bellingham YMCA: Thankfully, this is the last YMCA in my area I can find that still has the classic set up and still lets everyone walk around naked. Naked sauna, naked steam room, naked old style showers. It’s a small town so while it can be cruisy, it can also be incredibly quiet and boring depending on the day. On my last visit, I stayed a long time and had a delightful time with a hot black guy, a hot Hawaiian, and saving the best for last, a beautiful Asian. Day pass is 12 dollars and I do recommend it.

Ashland Family YMCA in Ashland, Oregon: Now, I want to make it clear I haven’t been to this Y since 2012, but I went all the time for four years. Perhaps the layout has changed since then but I kinda doubt it cuz I believe the facility was built in 2005 so it would be pretty early to do a remodel. Anyway, when I went there, it had open showers and a sauna that everyone used naked. One caveat, however, is that Ashland is a very hippie place, so while the penises flopped left and right as far as the eye could see, it wasn’t necessarily cruisy and I didn’t hook up very often; it was more just happy Nudist types who don’t care about being naked.

Palace Spa in Federal Way, Washington: A day spa that costs 25 bucks to enter and has a men’s area and a women’s area. Nudity is actually required there so there’s no excuse for being shy. Open showers, three whirlpools, sauna, steam. Can definitely be cruisy but discretion is a must; awhile back I got caught getting a hand job and got thrown out. While it’s been like three years now and I’m fairly certain nobody there would recognize me, I haven’t gotten up the courage to go again.

Q Spa and Sauna in Lynwood, Washington: Same as above, a day spa that can be cruisy. Naked showers, whirlpools, sauna and steam.

Okay, so I'm a 23 year old male from the south, and I have absolutely no problem using the communal showers. Didn't grow up playing sports but I go to the gym a few times a week at my university and prefer to shower after (because I'm usually very sweaty and don't wanna go home smelling like booty). Now generally, I prefer to use the open shower we have, but usually around 6 or 7, there is this REALLY creepy guy who will LITRALLY follow guys into the locker room and shower with them if they use the open shower. Whenever I see him, I immediately go into the private stalls, but it's pretty cramped in there and I feel like I get cleaner using the open one. Granted, whenever he sees me, he will literally alter his workout plan, stop early and shower if/when he sees me going into the locker/shower room and start a conversation with me the WHOLE time I'm showering. What are y'all's thoughts on creepy old guys. I just wanna shower without being bothered...

A very good question, and in my opinion it is very important to have tact and subtlety and respect to keep these kinds of magic places alive. It is people like that gentleman who ruin it for everyone cuz eventually the gyms ruin the locker rooms with private shower stalls of shame. This is what happened to what used to be my favorite cruising spot, The Downtown Seattle YMCA. God I loved cruising there but there were lots of old guys who lived in the steam room and would be so tactless as to immediately start jerking off as soon as anyone came into the steam room. Once a 900 year old man just stood in front of me and started wanking. I said “Are you serious?” and he responded with genuine confusion, “Is this not okay?” I was actually amused by this rather than annoyed but that’s a good example of your classic troll.

My advice to you is to use your body to send a msssage and don’t worry that you’re being too obvious because people like this need to have things obvious. If he follows you into shower and takes the one right next to you, turn yours off and move over to another one. If you’re sitting in steam room naked and he comes in, put your towel on, wrap it around your waist, cross your legs, and then turn your head away from him and maybe close your eyes. Do it in a way that it’s obvious you’re doing it because of him; he should get the hint.

I love cruising and I love being naked with other men but I try to practice tact, don’t just start wanking, use your body, use signals and observe other signals. We gays are special cuz we got a whole sexy secret thing going on and we always have, the key to keep those sexy secret things going is to never be too overt.

Dear 25 year old guy today at the gym. Taking a 'bath' at the sink while keeping your shorts on because you don't want people to see your wiener in the shower is likely one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen in the locker room.

Does anyone know if the YMCA in Richmond, VA still has an open shower? I just moved to the area, and haven't found anything remotely open to guys hanging out naked.

Yes it does and still very cruisy, however be very careful play in the steam room not the sauna.

An historic post. When I regularly attended gyms in Wellington in the 1990s the showers were open, but with some plastic curtaining. This was in the boom times for gyms when most attending were going for aerobics classes rather than the weights and body building. The amount spent on newspaper advertising was astonishing. Prior to that the gym market was very small. The first was opened around 1986 by a Russian immigrant, Vic Greenwich under Greenwich's gym in the centre of Wellington. This had l shower boxes, but no one bothered with the curtain. What it did have, a novelty, was a male sauna. This was a great place to meet other guys. Not in a relationship sense, but the chance to sometimes talk politics with some pretty important people in the Government, that was the nature of the gym scene then. We were all naked. There was one instructor there who was gay I would say. Our eyes would meet, perhaps I should have grabbed the opportunity but didn't. I did pick up his sexual energy. He showered at the end of a class in such a way to catch my attention. In the sauna it was the same but more boned up. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

No open showers, but I went to a nice one yesterday that has a spa like setup at the end of the shower row with a large hot tub, steam room, and sauna. Nearly all the men use the hot tub nude. The only one that didn't was this older man in his 60s with long board shorts on.

The Best YMCA in NYC to check out?
The West Side Y on West 63rd Street is the BEST. After work weekdays 5-8 pm, all day Saturday & Sunday the locker room can be filled with 75-100 guys - most walk nude too. Two huge open shower rooms, sauna & steam (action in both).
