Moderators

I want a Canadian! Do I have to be a moderator to get one? I don't need two or three though, I'd never have time to moderate... or be a mom.... or work....

Part of me would like to apply to be a moderator but I think I'm far too conservative and don't have enough time to dedicate to it.

Moderators get a free pass to the club level of any Ritz Carlton. They are also entitled to oral sex three times a day from any person within a seven mile radius. They have the droit de seigneur over any LPSG's members family, extended to third cousins, which includes most southern members spouses.

They also get two Canadians.

I wants a Canadian!!! Lol. They'd be easy to sneak across the river and all.. being that I'm in Michigan.

But, to ask another question in reference to this. After applying to become a moderator, how long till you know your application has been viewed? Can you view your own application, and/or responses to it? and if so, where? Also, if you get denied.. will you be notified?

K, thx guys! Keep up the great work. :biggrin1:

I'd like clarification of the above section (in bold)... In which sense do you mean the word snowballing? I'm yet to pick my two, and this could make all the difference.

Are you saying that there is an alternative meaning to the innocent past time of snow ballistics.

I heard that PMS is illegal in Canada.

Are they standard canadians or french canadians, cos the latter would be really useful for my oral skills, perhaps a mix 'n' match?

You get to choose. So long as they are native Canadian citizens. If i remember right, that even extends to first nations members.

It should be noted, the perks are many and vast, but they do come at a high price. Estimate the amount of time you spend on LPSG now. Double it. The new number is how much time you'll be spending sifting through bickering PMs. Double that number. That's how much time you'll be spending in the back rooms, discussing the bad boys and what needs to be done about them. Now, take 1/100th of the original number, this is the new amount of time you'll have to spend in the forums.

It's good to be a moderator. It just comes with large sacrifices, that the masses are quick to forget about when they decide it's time to lynch a moderator, and any moderator will do. In other words, make sure you have gads of time, and a very thick skin!

AMEN to that ,JBT!

I think one of the most important things the moderating team does that I don't think the general membership knows about is to ferret out underage children who try and join LPSG. I think you'd be surprised how many there are and how persistent they can be. But we have our ways of finding them......

A wise woman! LOL! LPSG is for a diverse group of folks and the moderator forum reflects that diversity so you shouldnt nix yourself because you may be on the conservative side. The time element however may be good to think about.

I can tell you from being a moderator on a diff site and a friend was a moderator on a wine lovers site that:
A) All discussion boards end up being the same in that:
B) There are flame wars like all get out even on baking sites
C) If you've been a member and become a moderator that some of your friends will become enemies when you make decisions they don't like.
D) It's a VERY thanless job
E) You will have wars in the backrooms that only the moderators have access to
F) You have to devote even more time to it than you thot you would
G) You will think it's a great idea to be a moderator/star on any given site and will shortly hate yourself for thinking so and wish you hadn't.
H) Luckily on this site moderators aren't assigned to a forum that's 'theirs' and you won't be goaded by fellow moderators in the backroom when you aren't starting enuff topics to get readers interested to respond.
I) You WILL spend ENDLESS hours answering insipid questions from people that are new and duller ones from people that are drunk.
J) See above
K) See above
L) DECIDE if it's something you really have the time for because it will take up ALOT of your time, even if yo're a moderator on a sewing bee site.
M) You'll need a drink before you answer the endless stupid questions people send you.
N) As mentioned above alot of your online and real friends will NOT like decisions you make esp if you have to ban them.
O) Oh I don't know..see all above and I don't need to use the rest of the alphabet!

Preach, baby! Preach!

One other thing I thot of was that most sites should bring mods in from other places. When you are trying to be really objective and moderate it's reeeeeeeeally hard when people you know are involved, and it can be stressful. I dont think any moderator on any site should be overly associated w/the members. It colors some of your decisions in other members eyes. I dunno just another 2 cents.

Another great thought! I had no idea what an intense ride it would be when I hesitantly agreed to moderate here a few years ago. Though it took me to a point of depression, I would say the most rewarding thing about it was when I was able to help someone with his or her problem on the site or to give them another perspective on things. All of your points have been right on about it though.

I've been thinking about something since the moderator applications were posted a few days ago.
I have had an incredible opportunity to work with some wonderful people in the moderator forum. I think that each of us brought an individual quality to the moderator forum, whether it is legal knowledge, compassion, a level head insight into human behavior etc...
I have tremendous respect for everyone that I have been lucky to work with past and present. I think it has been amazing that each of us with our differing view points while we did not always agree, we liked and respected one another and worked very well together.
I also think that the members here are the best on the world wide web... again we all don't always agree but for the most part it is a joy to log in here and participate in your lives and ideas!

please please present mods... scrutinize carefully

It's so good as things stand now. I've come to appreciate the system as I never thought I would.

I know your job (as presented in the green post to all members) is entirely thankless but you must hire someone who's basically without ego.

It nearly ruined the place in the past.

Problem as I see it? Most who'd qualify for the job simply wouldn't go near it.
